I'm not sure if it makes me a bad husband or not, but it grinds my gears that my wife wants us to go to the graduation of the son of one of their close family friends.

This is someone that I've met twice (briefly) in the six years that we've been together. I get that they were close when the kid was younger and his mom has done a lot for my wife when she was in school... but, shouldn't a card and a nice check be sufficient enough?

I wouldn't even bother. I'd tell my wife she could go by herself if it was that important.

That's not really how graduation works. I got nearly $2500 when I graduated, a lot of it from people I hadn't seen in years.

I'm not sure which is more common, but this certainly isn't how graduation worked for me.. either time.

People who are turning left at an upcoming light and do not get in the left lane ahead of time, then drive down the middle lane going 20 or damn near stop entirely because they refused to get in line with everyone else even though they knew damn well a mile ago that they were going to turn and now need to hold everyone up so they can get over at the last second.

I'm not sure which is more common, but this certainly isn't how graduation worked for me.. either time.

I mean, I don't come from affluence at all. It seemed to be the case for a lot of people I graduated with. Maybe that isn't normal, I could be totally wrong.

I do too. As much as I hate to see it, I want New York in Stanley Cup finals. I can't stand seeing New York in the championship game of any sport, but I'd rather them than Montreal(but at the same time,I want to see Montreal just to have the fans in it,cause Montreal fans are one of best in all of hockey)

When an early season match up, in any sport, results in a blowout, and the following "conversation" takes place:

"Is [losing team] this bad or is [winning team] this good?"

inevitable response: "I think it's a little of both..."

I hate that so much. That or when a team like, say, the Heat, loses a couple of games in a row early on and it's always "PRESS THE PANIC BUTTON!!! THEY CAN'T LIVE UP TO EXPECTATIONS!!! NO WAY!!!" from the media... Isn't that a bit of an overreaction? Let's let things take their course and over an 82 game season, those kinds of runs will work themselves out.

It's pretty much just the ****-face canadiens, but, all of canada gets lumped in with them for now.

I think they're just passionate about the game in general, not really too concerned about being good fans.

A check ? For somebody that isn't even blood ? WTF ? A happy graduation would do just fine. I wouldn't even send them a card, let alone write them a check.

Well, it was a random acquaintance to me, but for my wife it's her "godmothers" first born. My wife was basically raised by her and she spent a lot of time with them growing up. The check that we would give is basically just a fraction of what they've done for her. So for me the money isn't an issue, I just didn't want to go... which we didn't. I suppose I should post that last part in the Pleasures of Life thread.
