Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

The last movie I went to was Hancock. But when I did go to the movies on a regular basis, it was never on the weekends, it was always during the week. The only thing I ever bought was something to drink. I would eat either before or after the movie.

Heck I do all my shopping for anything, during the week. Come weekend, you will not catch me in a store. Be way too crowded for my liking. I avoid malls like the plague. If I can't find something in a stand alone store, then I will simply order it online before I would step foot inside of a mall.

I've never gotten into a girls car and not been told to just move anything out of the way I need to in order to sit.

I use to enjoy going for the experience of it but I don't even find that worth it anymore. Now that I'm married the wife and I find it cheaper and more convenient to just rent an on demand movie at home and it's a better experience cuz I only have to watch it with the one person I actually care to see it with. Don't have to deal with the drive, the parking, the lines, the food lines , among other things. Now that I think of it too, I especially am way too sick of having to navigate through three quarters of the nearby middle school just to watch a movie. Kids are kids but it's more than obnoxious to have to be around a large group of them for more than a few minutes. I'm definitely showing my age but oh well. Sue me.

The theaters that can are making changes. I have a 30 screen theater the next town over. There are designated 21+ only screens. Even at 10:30 a.m. showings. They also replaced part of the theater with seats that recline all of the way and the others with non-reclining, but oversized la-z-boy like seats.

Keyword for you is wife. I hate buying drinks at the theater. I'll do popcorn because it's so good. Last week I took a girl to this theater and it's hard to be a cheap *** and sneak in drinks on a second date. So I got to buy two $4.50 drinks on top of tickets that were $11 each.

30 screen theater ? Damn.....Never been in one that big. I have been in 21 and over theaters before though in Chicago. They sold REAL food too. Steak dinners, beer, wine, etc. It was 2 recliners with a coffee table in between the paired recliners.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

One thing to consider is everybody's story is prefaced by "I rarely ever go to the movies but..." the cinema business is down. You can find illegal streams online of new movies or just wait for it to come out on DVD and netflix it or stream legitimately for cheap. There are plenty of TV shows that provide a movie like experience. There isn't as much of a need to go to a cinema any more.

They need to make their money some how. Or they can go out of business. With most businesses you need to lower your prices to get more people but obviously cinemas feel they have a better shot at profit by making more money off less people.

This must be a geriatric thing. All chicks cars Ive been in have been filthy as ****. My mom's truck is a moving CVS with all sorts of **** in it. She has half a wardrobe in there, some laundry detergent and softener, a random suitcase in the back, a spare tire; a Payless Store or two in there. Its sad.

Her truck was in for repairs once and I lent her my car for a few days. It took me 3 hours to clean it and toss **** out when I got it back.

It is a location thing. In NYC you will be paying too much money to do the most basic ****. In Florida I can buy a ticket for 7 bucks, in Brooklyn its at least 11 dollars, dont get me started on Manhattan and their 12 dollar water bottles. Dont even bother buying food in the theater. Im stunned all these places still make money, especially in smaller towns with less dense populations.

I don't think it's limited to old people, my younger sister's car is a mess granted she has a 7-year-old. Though I think most of the crap in there is hers.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

I don't think I've ever actually posted a gear grinder so here goes:

Pedestrians. Not as a driver but as a fellow pedestrian.

Backstory, I walk quite a bit in downtown Pittsburgh every day. 45 minute commute to park (10-15 mins on a weekend but that's another gear grinder) and then a 15 minute walk.

Also, I'm 6'3 so already have long legs but my legs are disproportionately long so I'm a fast walker just because my strides are very long.

My gear grinder doesn't have to do with slow walkers though.

People who walk in the middle of the sidewalk making it impossible to pass especially with foot traffic coming the other direction.

People who walk in packs. Side by side. I'm talking about three or more, not just two because I get that.

But three people walking side by side literally take up the entire sidewalk and short of stepping in the street to get around them, I am out of luck.

TWW. Similar to a DUI. Texting while walking is becoming a dangerous activity on our sidewalks. People swerve all over and stop suddenly if they need to really concentrate on the text. It's annoying when I am trying to walk around them and don't know which side to pass them on.

There's more scenarios than that and one involves umbrella's but I'll leave it at that.

All very nitpicky but it's a major gear grinder for me!

Good point but at least I enjoy the stadium atmosphere, the game, the entire experience of a sporting event. So I think most people don't let the stadium food prices prevent them from going to a sporting event. On the other hand, the movie theater experience is no longer as worth it for me beyond just the food pricing. That's just my personal opinion but I don't think I'm alone in it .
