At least that’s a good excuse to be paranoid. State police were advertising for employment within the last year around here on the radio. That commercial got me so many times and I wasn’t doing anything wrong. Well, besides speeding a bit. That’s actually the only thing I do “wrong.” Too old to get in to trouble these days.

The media constantly portraying the Joker movie like it is going to mass brain wash the population into shooting up places. NYC is now going to station cops outside every theater.

Could do a whole thread on the media. Just the fact they think we view them as any kind of arbiter of truth or reason in 2019 is pretty hilarious.

Cynical me would say it's one hell of a marketing campaign.

I had the same thought honestly, and I haven't read any media articles.

Probably not the best marketing campaign, to have people think you might get shot if you consume their product.

It creates a buzz about the movie, movie is constantly in the news, free air time, etc.

I think it depends on what form of media you're talking about.

A big gear grinder of mine is when some people (I don't even have to say who I'm talking about here) lambastes respectable journalism and tries to lump it into the same group as Fox, CNN, etc's television coverage of the world. Having legitimate journalism in America is still really important and sometimes it's the only thing holding the people who are responsible for our livelihood accountable.

(I think I tip toed around this responsibly for OS)

Another problem I see is local news stations are trying to cram 50 topics into a 30 minute window so they only cover a few points about anything before moving on. They either don't clarify what they are saying or give one side and move on so your grandmother who only reads the local paper and watches the 5am and 5pm news doesn't get the full story.

You know what they say: there's no such thing as bad publicity.

I'm sure there is a whole market for these types of consumers.

Not as many as there used to be.

When I first read the warnings issued about possible situations at Joker theaters, my first thought was if the people who lose money over lack of revenue could sue the FBI over it.

Probably wiser to get ahead of it, but I would just prefer they staffed them with extra security instead.

To play devil's advocate about the media thing, all it really takes is just one shooting where the perp credits the film to satisfy their needs of: "See? See?" I'm not saying they win, but they'll think they do, and sadly in 2019 (and then 2020) the Academy will not want to support a film that only draws negative light toward it.

Let's just hope that some people of this earth don't end up feeling vindicated over the release of this film, and act upon it like so.
