Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I have put in blood, sweat, and even tears for what I have now, and what I will have.
Oh, and the first year I was in business, I almost ended up "homeless" and broke.
Instead of resorting to pan handling I worked smarter, harder, and more.
Obviously not everyone can just "work" more or harder in their situation, but there are ways to get out of the gutter if you want to bad enough. We are a nation full of second chances.
If you can't because of a bottle or a needle, well then I don't pity you.I post the frog

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
While I agree you can't group everyone together, I've still had enough bad experiences to never want to help many people out on the street.
I've had people ask me for money for food, outside of Arbys and I say "I don't have any cash (lie), but I'll go in and buy you something to eat if you need it". They always turn that down and say no thanks.
I've also had a lady ask me for money outside of a Chinese restaurant by work and after I say I can't, she goes into the liquor store.
There's also a dude who sits at the gas station by work once every few days in the same SUV, walking around asking for money and it's always the same sad story about needing to get his wife to the hospital, because she's pregnant. The wife is never anywhere to be found and he's so ****ed up that he doesn't remember talking to the same people every day.
Maybe the real gear grinder should be these people who are out there asking for money, making it harder for people who really need help to get it.
I'm a very giving person, even thought I can't give much. I just don't like to give money to random people I meet. I'll always offer to buy someone food, though...Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I have a soft spot for homeless persons with dogs (or animals in general but really it's 99% dogs). There's one guy who sits outside of my grocery store with an awesome vanilla lab. I always give him some money, usually nothing big but something. I just pray he uses it right."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
You don't need an education or even much of a resume to go work fast food or entry level retail. The amount of time spent panhandling on the corner could easily be spent applying at those places.
As far as being homeless due to alcohol or drug addiction, nobody made the decision to take that drink or use that needle but you.Comment

They need a home, shelters can be full, its can be hard for a random homeless guy to find this kind of help
You need clothing, again they are dead broke right?
And you need training
Plus you need paperwork which we can assume a homeless guy wouldnt have all that handy at any given moment.
I agree that those who are homeless and literally refuse to work at getting out of their predicament or have no desire to are annoying? Is that the word? So are those "homeless" who are actually just professional panhandlers as these types camp near popular college campus hotspots or city hotspots for handouts.
But Homeless is too broad a term.Comment

People who try to bother me on Sundays during football. Most people know this is not the time to start bothering me with BS.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
When I was in college I commuted every day to NYC. About two weeks before Christmas during my freshmen year, I was waiting at Penn station and a guy in a coat approached me and pulled out a wad of cash. He explained that he was stranded in NYC and needed exactly 1.89 to get to Washington to be with his family for the holidays. Being a kindhearted idiot, I gave him two bucks and wished him well. Good deed done. Heart warmed, off the naughty list, let's go Christmas, right?
Wrong. The next year I was running for a train and a guy stopped me and asked me if I had 1.89 to get to Washington. In a rush, I brushed past him and then stopped in my tracks...."hey! I gave you money last year, didn't I?". He disappeared and I made my train...feeling like An idiot for thinking I had done a good deed a year earlier.
Replay the second story one more time because it happened the same way about three months later.
finally, in my fourth year of college I was eating a pretzel and hear somebody say to me "excuse me, but I need a little help...". I don't know if I recognized the voice or was just playing the numbers, but I didn't even turn around and said, " do you need a dollar eighty nine to get to Washington?". The guy smiled and said, " how the %^#* did you know that?". I explained that I fell for it a few years earlier and he tried to get me a few times the year before. Long story short, we got to talking and he said he made about three hundred dollars a day on average and around the holidays could double that amount. The trick was that he didn't look like a beggar at all, but more like the dude from the all state insurance commercials.
Gears grinded as far as the "homeless" go.....The line must be drawn HERE! This far, no further!Comment

This grinds my gears...
Let's say I'm at a gas station getting gas. I am a huge idiot and leave the car running while I go in for a moment. A criminal hops in my car and steals it. A police officer sees this, pulls behind the suspect vehicle, and activates their blue lights & sirens.
The vehicle doesn't stop. Well guess what? The cop can't chase! Your car is gone buddy!

More than likely a policy prohibiting them from pursuing non-violent offenders through a highly populated area and putting bystanders at risk.
If their department is accredited there are a lot of policies they have to follow such as the no pursuit rule.I post the frog

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
If you get car jacked with a dangerous weapon police could chase.
I won't be upset when a politician gets their car stolen and they throw a hissy fit when police can't chase. Then the policy will changeSOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives
