You know what grinds my gears?
The homeless.
No exaggeration, but by almost every off-ramp here there is a hobo with a story and a sign. And also on both sides of them is a restaurant, gas station, etc... with a big sign stating they are hiring.
Also, there is actually a place, two of them even, that pay people to hold signs!
Of course if you ask one of these tax gobblers why they don't have a job there is always some excuse. The can stand by the off-ramp and hold a sign, but they can't do the same thing and get paid for it. They can walk up and ask you for money at your car, but they can't walk up to a counter and ask you what you would like to eat.
And then there's the people who defend this garbage and try to guilt you into feeling bad for them by saying things like "Those poor people. They won't know what it feels like to have a full stomach this Thanksgiving."
Bull****.
I'll drive over there and tell them exactly what it feels like.
I can't pity people that would rather stand out in the cold, day after day, and panhandle rather than get a job and pay taxes like the rest of us.I post the frog

Working at jobs that use timeclocks there is always someone hogging the clock when there are 4 to 5 people waiting in line to clock in/out. Check your schedule online or at least have the decency to let others use it quickly since you're taking all day.

I don't trust these people to not be junkies, especially around here. You've got time to stand and beg but not look for even a crappy job? If you're up against it like that, you gotta be working nonstop and basically just live on the bare essentials (food, clothes, shelter).
I just feel as if for every one legitimate person, there's tons of others who BS it. My brother knows a girl whose father panhandled as his job. Scum.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
As long as you live on this earth, there will always be homeless people and the unemployment rate will always be greater than 0%. It's not that easy for a homeless person to just go out and find a job, get an apartment etc. A lot of them are mentally unstable and need real help. While there are certainly people out there that make a killing panhandling and deceiving people, you can't make a blanket assumption that all of them are trying to get over. This is not to say give $20 bucks to every homeless person you see, either.
True story...There was a homeless lady I bought a Subway sandwich for. You could tell she hadn't eaten in weeks. Man, she started tearing up and repeatedly thanked me for it. I said you're welcome and the next thing I see is her devouring that sandwich.
As much as people like to believe that everyone has the same opportunities to succeed, some simply do not. Environmental factors play a role, not getting adequate support and encouragement from their families, and just plain bad fortune. All of this plays a role in how people turn out. We can't allow allow our good circumstances/fortune to have us believe that we're better than the next. We must humble ourselves, because we could have all ended up the same way. If somebody is in need, there are outlets/resources to reach out to for help. All panhandling does is enable their lifestyle habit, IMO.
Oh and I have seen the alcoholic get pissed at somebody for giving him food! That's the one thing I support giving to homeless: food. I would never give money

My parents DLP TV that will NOT DIE. They are waiting on the bulb to go out. Previously each bulb has lasted about 12-14 months. This one has to be going on 24 months, and the TV makes a whizzing sound sometimes. I think we have the only DLP TV that has lived for 6 years and had no problems.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
When ESPN or NFL Network likes to pretend that everybody plays or even cares about Fantasy Football. It gets plugged into every discussion, every highlight reel, every single part of their shows has to mention some vapid comment about fantasy football. I dont care, keep the fantasy football on the plethora of television shows dedicated to fantasy football. When Sportscenter interviews a guy and asks him how he feels about being the best fantasy player in the league Im like really though? Thats what you choose to talk about?Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Where I work I know the panhandlers. They are either alcoholics or drug addicts or both. Some live in halfway homes for free and receive food stamps. One of the guys is really nice, but he is a mess. He just received a paycheck from the government for $30,000. I forget the reason behind the check...I will have to ask about it at work. Anyways this guy is a crackhead and goes on about a two-week crack splurge and the money is GONE. He is now back to his corners panhandling. The other main panhandler is the nastiest man alive. The type to cuss and yell at people when they don't give him money. He's a huge alcoholic and he gets food stamps. He's not buying food with the money he receives.
If somebody is in need, there are outlets/resources to reach out to for help. All panhandling does is enable their lifestyle habit, IMO.

We never used to have homeless people in North Dakota, but since the oil boom almost all of our homeless had good jobs or were in line to get one, but screwed it up by committing crimes, drugs, alcohol, or even in some cases laziness when they found out what the job entails.
So now rather than walk the straight and narrow like we have to keep our jobs, they pan handle.
And for those of you feeling sorry for them, our fast food restaurants are paying up to $18 an hour.
I feel just as sorry as the rest of you for the single mother who lost her job and has to provide for 2 kids, and I should reiterate that I do wish those kinds of people the best, but the guys who are completely able to work, but opt not too because of their own personal choices and actions make me sick.
And for the record, I did hire a homeless man once who was actually looking for a job.
Even gave him a place to live. Paid him well too. He had it made.
He quit 2 weeks later. In his exact, honest words - "I have to go back to Detroit. There's no heroin in N.D."
Another employee said he still sees smoking cigarettes outside the shelter...I post the frog
