People who discredit something because you read say you read it on Wikipedia. I think I would trust Wikipedia over 100% of anything else out there for how heavily moderated most of the pages are.

Yeah I don't understand the wiki hate.

Anything pertaining to a fact needs sources which you can research as well. If the source doesn't exist, wiki pretty much flat out tells you the section/page is missing sources to validate the statements.

Wiki is like a web library. I guess if people still want to use card catalog then go ahead

I get why. People don't realize there is a massive network of people (volunteers?) behind the scenes making people don't change pages to something that is incorrect. I personally have one page that I keep track of because I'm the one who started it.

For everyday things, sure, I don't see the problem with wiki. If you are trying to use wiki for a research paper... just no. What you can do is use wiki to get the sources and cite those because there is a good chance many of them are reasonable, citable sources that can't edited.

At least people can use website sources for their papers. One assignment I had recently, nobody was allowed to use websites, newspapers or anything like that, but they still needed to get a source...I seriously don't get what the problem was with newspapers or internet sites(of newspapers and other things), it's like they intentionally do that so people are forced to spend so much time trying to find the information in the schools library books.

Speaking of school books....I hate those teachers who make people think they need a textbook for the class(so people would go out and buy it). Like they use it so much in the first 2-3 weeks of the course, then never talk about the book again for the rest of the semester. Luckily I learned that from the beginning. More than half my classes I've never needed a textbook for. Though it does leave a bad first impression on the teacher when I'm like "I don't want to pay ___ hundred dollars for something I'm gonna use for 1-2 weeks".

I just realized that's probably why I get hits. Sometimes I see the "most recent visitors" and think to myself why they came to my arena at all. Good call on that.

I can't believe it's as widespread as it is. Truly makes me fear going outside in the wrong areas.

This should make you feel better, though:
