Interesting, I'm not seeing that post that's quoted, nor a deleted post. Hopefully mods can find it and ban the guy. Empathy is just lost on some people I suppose.

I'm happy that this year our neighborhood's FB group wasn't overrun with "fireworks scaring my dog" or "were those gunshots by X location?" posts like previous yearsNintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Its weird when you read every post in order, then come to a quote that wasn't there.
I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, so i was at least trying to understand where he was coming from until i read the one you quoted. That told me everything i needed to know.
As for me, i live way out in the country and its usually pretty quiet, but im prepared for the loud explosions from the few neighbors i have. Fortunately my neighbors always do this just after dark and they are over within an hour. I did hear a couple of distant fireworks on Monday night about 1am, taking my dog out. I just thought "Idiots..." Although they dont really bother me, i realize i am not the only person on the planet. Thats disrespectful i dont care what day it is.
Many people today have no idea what respect means, other than the fact that they demand it.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I haven't complained about fireworks on here in awhile because I remember my complaints weren't well received lol
I'm not a military vet but I do have a panic disorder and unexpected loud bangs can trigger it. The good thing is it's not really unexpected on July 4, so the disorder is usually kept in check. Problem is, the neighbors usually end up buying like a years supply of fireworks that they choose to randomly set off any time any day.
It's crazy to say my neighbors should know about my disorder and knock it off, but cmon guys, if it's 3am on january 17th, what are you doing?Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
We have a guy across the road that shoots them off, I think he did it on the 3rd this year, but he does it right after dark and it's no big deal. He will do it a couple other times this summer and it's no big deal. But if he did it anytime after midnight, we would be having words.
As far as the animals go, tough they will get over it, they always do, and yes I have animals, always have. It's never been a big deal all these years until recently.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Yea, I can get on board with the argument regarding young children and the time fireworks are shot off. You lose me though when you bring up the dogs.
My dog reacts the same way to thunderstorms as she does to fireworks. Can't really control thunder so I don't worry about when fireworks are going to be shot off. She still goes to sleep just fine.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
While its true that fireworks and thunderstorms are both loud noises that bother dogs and you can't control thunderstorms, its not about the fact that fireworks are being shot off on the 4th of July, its the time they are being shot off. When its 3 AM and someone is still shooting off fireworks, that's a bit much. Yes a thunderstorm can roll through at 3 AM, but a thunderstorm wouldn't have been going on continuously for roughly 6 hours keeping a dog in a panic.
Thunderstorms at 3 AM are an act of nature. Fireworks at 3 AM are an act of an *******.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
And maybe each dog is different.
The dog across the fence is not afraid of fireworks or thunder.
Ours becomes a nervous nelly when thunder and fireworks appear. As soon as the thunder or fireworks are gone, not heard, she calms down and falls asleep. We were fortunate this year, the fireworks around the neighborhood ended at 11:50 and she was asleep after that. Some years it's been 2 or 3 in the morning fireworks (during and around the 4th of July) are going off and she prances around and can't settle until they are over with.
A few years ago, I took her for a walk on July 2nd at 9:00am in the morning. A bottle rocket appeared out of nowhere and she jumped a few feet in the air and I did as well because I wasn't expecting it. As we approached the guy that fired it off, he did apologize and let us continue without firing off another one.
My initial post wasn't a mad/ranting post, it was just understanding and finding some common ground with some other OS posters. Suddenly, it lit up like a firecracker(pun intended)Last edited by roadman; 07-05-2018, 09:46 PM.Comment

My initial post wasn't a complaint about all fireworks. It was about the hours/date.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
For us this year the fireworks downtown were followed with about an all night thunderstorm (lasted through my commute this morning) so she didn't recognize a difference. She was terrified all night and didn't move away from me all night. It worked out okay since it was calm today and I was able to get her out early this morning and my wife was off today and was able to get her out throughout the day but we couldn't get her to go out at all last night starting around sunset.
She wants no part of being outside with the fireworks going on until they are over with. Some years, she held it in till morning. And the same thing happens with a thunderstorm and she will ride the storm out.
And after I said all that, took her out, she heard some neighborhood fireworks and came right back in the house. lolLast edited by roadman; 07-05-2018, 10:30 PM.Comment
