This somewhat grinds my gears, but moreso gets my WTF gears grinding.

I'm working bar detail earlier and I hear giggling followed by louder laughter from behind one of the apartment buildings nearby. I come around the corner and there are five early-20's females, all holding their plastic cups with their respective Greek letters, standing at the top of the wall. They all have their skirts hiked up, no underwear, seeing who can piss the furthest. A part of me was impressed, not by the distance, but by the guts (dare I say balls?) these girls had to be doing this in public. This area is within a football-throw of one of the largest college football stadiums in the nation, in the town belonging to one of the most successful football teams in the nation. And this is our first home game weekend. It is packed. It's getting insane.

I didn't arrest them. I just shook my head and walked away. Sometimes it isn't worth my time. Might I add, because of our work schedule with football, I won't be off work until 6am Sunday. It's going to be a long weekend. Hearing the inevitable crying just wasn't on my list of things to do.

When an animated film's marketing campaign focuses as much on who the voice actors are as they do promoting the film's content itself.

I always thought this is what Pixar was good at avoiding. Even when Toy Story came out, they didn't run around in trailers and TV spots stating that this was all Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. Instead, it seems they hired voice actors who felt to be best for that character instead of parents and children saying: "Hey, I know who that is. Let's go see it!" The one exception to this was Inside Out, when their trailer did in fact say who voiced whom. That was actually a red flag for me because they never did that before.

Anyway, the biggest culprit of this was always DreamWorks, and I saw another film coming out that might be from them which had the commercial even show them voice acting as they said their names. It doesn't give me assurance that they have confidence in their own film to simply sell me what their product is instead of resorting to the fact that because we know the person then we should care about how they impact the film.

There are exceptions to this, though. Casting someone like Danny DeVito is one thing because his voice has a very animated characteristic to it and can be used to represent the character's image more strongly (which again, I always thought that Pixar tried to do). Even Bradley Cooper playing Rocket Raccoon or Steve Carrell playing Gru become unrecognizable in their vocal manipulations (sorta), so they are there for their sheer ability to perform. Many others are just being themselves and their voice is so generic that we are being sold more so on their name than their actual talent. I don't have much faith in those films as being a successful entity outside of the voice casting.

I dare DreamWorks or somebody to hire less name-recognizable talent and not promote them at the same time, just once.

the only way I'd care about the names behind the voices is if it was 1 person doing all of (or the majority of) the voices. which just doesnt happen anyways. so give me talent before name recognition.

I love SP but Matt and Trey are limited in their voice range. So many characters have very similar voices. I wish someone had given Harry Shearer an animated movie all his own 15-20years ago.

Hurricanes.

I live in NC fairly close to the coast (Wilson’s about an hour/hour and a half away from Wilmington). Campus shut down today and will be shut down til Monday, so I’m going back to Raleigh to ride this thing out with my family.

Prayers go out to the people in Wilmington. They’re saying that this is Hurricane Harvey all over again.
