That's the issue with carb-reduction diets. They're unsustainable for most people. At some point, there's a trade-off between dropping a few lbs and quality-of-life, and the former loses to the latter eventually for almost everyone. I mean, is it worth living a few more years if you can never eat pizza or cake again?

When you and your sales manager work together on how to address a customer's issue and come up with a planned response. So you then type the email out to the customer who in turn throws a fit and then your sales manager jumps in and says "my salesman (referring to me) was mistaken and shouldn't have told you that. This is what will be done."

        Pisses me off.

I hate this model where developers are releasing the same game on 5 different dates depending on the console, how much you're willing to pay, what kind of subscription service you have, etc. Battlefield V is the latest example.

We (gamers) are partly to blame because the whole gaming community is a "keeping up with the Joneses" thing now, but it doesn't make it any less annoying. You can see it in on this very forum the way people constantly have to have the nicest and newest phone or TV. They got us, man.. hook, line, and sinker.

Agree, but there's no sense getting upset about it. As you pointed out, the market will support it, so there's nothing that can be done about it. As soon as the market doesn't support the behavior, it will stop.

But I agree that the focus on optimal monetization of every release - above and beyond focus on making good games - has all but killed my enthusiasm for gaming.

Online ordering, but more importantly online returns.

Everyone and their mother talk about it like it's a breeze and hassle-free. I ****ing hate it. Much rather walk into a store and pick out what I need, and if it doesn't work then returning it works there as well.

Not even the catalyst of this gear-grinder post, but nearly a year later and I'm still waiting on that $40 from the hat I returned to MLB.com with their shipping label...

I totally agree with this. I recently bought some shoes online, and despite knowing that anything that requires a "fit" shouldn't be bought online, I took the plunge....huge mistake. I've since returned them twice for lack of proper fit. And it's a huge pain in the a**! I know I'm sorta old school, but eventually, after going back-and-forth w/ the service person online via email, I just went to the nearest brick-and-mortar location anyway and did the return/exchange there. And it was done in like 2 minutes.

So, yeah....I'm not going to order anything online I might have to return.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I have done almost all of my Christmas shopping from home and I'm almost done except for getting the kids Build-A-Bear gift cards and a yearly passes for the zoo.

Well, my big beef is with returns.

The ordering itself isn't that bad, but I remember the days when I was reading on here about people who used the Netflix disc renting service how "easy" it was to "return a disc and wait 3-5 days for another one to come in the mail." Like, what the hell?

The one time I had any experience with this when my godparents tried to rent something, the disc was scratched too much and the film skipped all over the place. We couldn't watch the movie of course because I wasn't around 3-5 days later!

People would say the equivalent things about GameFly. The mailing thing is the exact reason I will never have a GameFly membership.

If I want something now, I can get to a store, scope it out, and be home within minutes. If there is a problem, I can get it resolved in yet another twenty. Some website *cough* Monoprice *cough* make you pay for shipping for returns as well. I'm just not about that life, sorry.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

Oh, and my recent biff right now probably has to do with online stuff too...

I ordered something for my new-to-be car and have waited five days for them to ship the item (note: they still haven't done it, yet they verified the order days ago). Well, yesterday I got an e-mail that said there was a price increase on my item and that I would have to pay the difference or they wouldn't ship it.

WHY AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING THE DIFFERENCE OF AN ITEM THAT I ALREADY PURCHASED?

Two years down the road when the item costs $300 less per part, are they going to pay me $600 back? No.

If they shipped the item two days before this notification for a price increase, would they still hold me to this same concern? Uh uh.

To make matters worse, over a week ago I made a slight mistake in ordering the items because I was going to go over my credit limit, so I had to change payment options... but I couldn't get to their customer service over the weekend and had to sit on my *** and wait till Monday. Of course, they didn't get back to my e-mail question so I had to use the live chat option. Instead of letting them change payment plans, I had to cancel my first order and re-purchase it. That in itself is no problem because I'm not getting a new car yet for a few more weeks, but that time in itself probably halted the shipping. Once again, if they had a way of just letting me change the payment option without cancelling the order, I would have it before they decided something like: "Oh wait, we decided to make this more expensive now. We still haven't shipped yours, so we're going to hold your package hostage until you pay more."

I have never heard that kind of crock in my life. It wasn't a pricing mistake at the time either, it was just the price at the time. I had seen it like that for over a month and others had ordered the same thing.

The hat thing is another story entirely, but basically I ate $40 because apparently MLB.com never received my hat that I sent back through the post office, so they won't refund me. I can walk into a Lids store right now and do the same return in seconds.

I've also had bad eBay experiences and great Craigslist experiences. There is just no accounting for what happens when there is an issue with a delivery, transaction, exchange or return online versus the physical handling of it. It's not even close. Yes, if you order something online and it goes smoothly, it's no problem... also provided that you have the patience or time to wait it out a few days and shipping is free. But when even one of those things go south, it is just the largest inconvenience that I really do not need in my life to have more of. This is why I will always need a Best Buy or whatever else in my life, and it'll be sad when they are gone and I have to deal with this crock.

I'm pretty sure the above is against the law. Unless it's the only place where you can get the item, I'd cancel.
