People at the self checkout who ring up their items, pay, and then start bagging when you can easily just bag them as you go

That's doubley gear grinding. Sometimes you can"t get the bags open well enough to begin putting items in.

People who bring alcohol to the self-checkout when they know the machine is going to stop and require an employee to check their ID and key it in.

As someone who only recently started using self-checkout, and figuring out the do's and dont's, I feel singled out and bullied right now lol.

My biggest issue with self checkout is when a BOGO or sale doesn't ring up and the people that keep an eye on the checkouts make me feel like I'm asking them for a ride to the airport type of favor to look into it.

What about when u go to a retail store and everything (including socks and pencils) is locked and u need an associate to get you ANYTHING. Self checkout is extra easy when u just leave the store in annoyance.

Reminds me of the old Toys R' Us layout where you had to take a slip up to the front to get your game.

strong disagree, as a person who doesn't want to chat with the cashier (this happens to me constantly as an OCD shopper who sees the same employees at the same stores at the same time, they recognize me as a regular and think we're friends...)

if I'm in line as an individual there's a 1 on 1 interaction and they check my ID and make jokes because I don't look like my ID (i have long hair now), or some other stupid joke they always make, I'd much rather go to the u-scan where the worker(s) are trying to zoom around and handle multiple customers at once, so they just scan my ID and move on.

I've been avoiding places lately because they try and chit chat with me and I don't want that, I'm extremely introverted, I just want to buy my **** and leave

I get that and agree as I don't want to talk to the cashier either. I'm saying I don't want these people holding up the self-checkout line because often the employees they need to help them are slow as hell.

I wondered if this was a thing or not. I think you can get away with it if you know what you’re doing at the scanner and bagging. I’m pretty quick.

I started scanning all then bagging all because the bagging area was pretty sensitive in the early days of self checkout. Would screw it up, I think based on weight shifting as you moved bags around. Scanning then bagging shouldn’t take any longer, but I get the appearance looks that way. Standing in those lines is the worst. The slowest people in the world exist exclusively at the grocery store.

Now there aren’t even bags at the self checkout. Haha

Grocery delivery can be expensive but maaaan it’s worth it oftentimes. I don’t miss waiting for others to figure out what they need and dodging careless shoppers.

At one of the grocery stores I go to if you put a bag you brought from home in the bagging area it will freak out, ask if you brought your own bags, you say yes, then it will call for an attendant to verify it. So if the choice is between that, or just waiting until after you pay to bag, I'll wait til the end.

I don't use self checkout often but when I do I scan and pay before bagging simply to allow the person behind me to start doing the same sooner. We may all be talking about different volumes though because I'm talking about a quick run for just a few things rather than a full restock of the kitchen.

Why is it when you cancel an item or your overall transaction in self-checkout, they have to get a store rep to ok it? Is there some form of being able to steal the materials that way or something (other than not doing that and just taking your items, of course)?

People use to get stuff for insanely low prices at Wal Mart by putting a coin in between the metal part of the self checkout scale.

People who brag about doing "non-touristy" things when they travel and/or look down on you when you talk about the tourist activities that you did. I imagine (hope) this is just a vocal minority, but I have definitely encountered a few people like this. "Oh yeah we didn't want to be like everyone else and do touristy things so we did our own thing". To be honest, I'm not even sure what that means, but either way it's just such an odd flex.
