Holiday gear grinder: one of the limited time seasonal pies you were going to order for Thanksgiving suddenly disappears from the restaurant's menu

...when my legs forget how to work. Eh.

Currently dealing with a TBI that is affecting many aspects of my life and I was carrying laundry down the stairs and my legs suddenly became jello. Sucks to suck sometimes, but such is life. I'm grateful for no broken bones but it was a hell of a tumble, and not in the least bit graceful.

Sorry to hear that you're dealing with that. Hopefully, you'll recover some sense of normalcy soon. [emoji256]

People who play in highly competitive sports leagues, playing down to lower leagues (recreational). I was reminded of this little annoyance that used to pop up in my life due to some recent events.

I used to run into this a lot when I played softball on my company's team. We had a mix of guys who were athletes and some guys who just wanted to be out there for a bit of team building and exercise. So, we played in the lowest division where we were good but not dominant. There was this one team who played every year, they played in the top skill level league, but then also in ours. They would mercy rule every team every game, every guy on there played college baseball. Not the most enjoyable experience for an adults, way past our prime, recreational sports league. They weren't the only team to do this. A similar thing happened in our co-ed team as well.

Reminds me of stuff at my workplace.

Occasionally they'd hold mini sports games for the staff like basketball, hockey and so on.

Which for most people there is nice and fun, you're just out there shooting around, having fun, just enjoying being out there and playing.

But then there's those who play in actual leagues who are also taking part in this who start playing all seriously and everything and completely sucking the fun out of everything.

I get wanting to be competitive and all, but that's clearly not the place or time for it, and if you want to play up to your skill level, then do so, don't ruin it for those who clearly aren't at that level.

This sounds like real life video games, people gaming together and taking advantage of people just trying to have fun. Maybe "taking advantage of people" is harsh, but placing themselves in a situation where they can dominate and no one else can feel like they're really participating competitively in the activity. It's annoying

This is why I play kickball. It can be competitive, but you don't have former baseball and softball players trying to re-live their glory days.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

There isn't anyone to blame here, just the elements of Mother Nature.

I went to Six Flags Magic Mountain yesterday on my way home from a tournament in Southern California (I live in Northern). Unfortunately, due to high winds virtually almost every ride was closed.

Don't let the New Revolution's status fool you, either. I snapped this shot after having just rode it, and we were stuck on it before reaching the platform (you can tell by the kid in the photo in front that he too had time to whip out his phone, and the leaves on the platform are a good indication of how strong the winds were). I do not believe it had delays due to winds, though. It's just an old ride that requires maintenance here and there.

This means that not only are there less rides to go on, but this also funnels everybody else in the park to the only rides that were open. Twisted Colossus, a ****ing fantastic ride at the park (somewhere in that Top 3 if not #1), took almost 2.5 hours to get on.

The only true gear-grinder here is they don't give you a discount or refund if you went in, saw all the closures, and went back out. I decided to get a Season Pass since it is only about $10 more than single day admission with parking, but even still my value was totally diminished by the weather. I was thinking of staying at my sister's place in West Hollywood and returning today, but with more high winds advisories I made the seemingly wise decision to just go home yesterday as most of the rides are closed yet again today.

I still had a fun time out, though! Amusement parks can be a sight to behold.

Bad drivers get a lot of well-deserved unlove around here but plenty of pedestrians in parking lots need to go back to kindergarten and relearn how to walk. I'm really surprised there aren't more pedestrian related accidents than what there are. All of the gear grinding they give me could be completely eliminated if people were just more self-aware of where they are. I would like to blame it on phones but that's not the problem I'm seeing. It's that too many people walk around with their head up their arse.

Drivers, bicycle riders and pedestrians are all stupid.

The amount of bikes I see just going through red lights, I don't even get how it's legal for bikes to be on roads, even if it's bike lanes, and NOT have a registered license. So they can literally break all laws and never get in trouble unless police are flat out witnessing it first hand?

And pedestrians, the amount of people who see a car backing up or getting out of a spot and still try to quickly run behind to pass instead of wait the 10 seconds, or crossing the road during times/spots they shouldn't, or they don't cross when they're supposed to but then the second a cars coming they suddenly wake up and realize they were supposed to cross.

it's frustrating not knowing the intentions of other people, like you pull into a parking lot and the driver in front of you appears to pull in front first to a spot, so you go around him, only to realize he's switched to reverse because the intent was actually to back into a spot on the other side, and now you look like the jerk for not just sitting back and letting them park how they want. Meanwhile, another car is now behind you, and if you've stayed stationary for the front driver to do their thing, they're now frustrated with you for sitting there, you can't win

Worst is just those who don't signal (specifically at an intersection).

You might be waiting to turn left at a light, but the car on the other side has no signal so you wait, but then they just turn left themselves so you could've gone the whole time...

Or at a stop sign, you're going right but the car across has no signal so you think they're going straight, but suddenly they're turning left into the same part you were turning right.

One day I really want to know people's logic in why they don't signal when turning. I get if you're the only car around (or just pulling into a driveway or something and it's an empty street), but that makes up a very small portion of your time driving.

I don't think logic enters anywhere into the equation. I think it's simply a matter they do not care about others enough to do it. I also think that's what causes my gear grinding. If I thought it was a mistake, a lapse, accidentally forgetting to use a turn signal, that's one thing, and understandable. But you see it more often than not, so you know it's a matter of not caring.

People who don't stop behind the white line at traffic lights.

Then people who may or may not stop behind said light, but then spend the whole red light inching ever so slowly forward like is going to make the light change faster or something. Just stay behind the ****ing line and stop the car, not that hard.
