Autocorrect changing words not because they are misspelled but because of so algorithm that is telling them/it what I probably meant to say, or whatever the **** that even is lol. Or when it corrects a misspelling into a wrong word. I would rather rather s3nd the right word with a typo error than change the word into something I didn't even meek. [emoji118]

Noticing it a lot more because I've been Christmas shopping but cars that don't let you cross the street in front of stores to get in and out. You see me standing and waiting, the other car stopped for pedestrians yet you want to play Daytona.

It's currently 12:30am on Christmas morning, and people are shooting off fireworks...

Over the last few years people have become far more liberal in their use of fireworks around here with basically every holiday turning into a week long event with explosions deep into the night.

Ironically, I didn't hear anyone with fireworks despite it being a holiday.

Though around midnight I did hear someone shoveling snow. Yes, there is snow on the ground, but it hadn't snowed in what would be 24 hours from the time that person decided to shovel at midnight on Christmas Eve, so don't know what made them decide to go outside and shovel at midnight, the day AFTER it had snowed, and it wasn't even a lot of snow either, just a few inches at most.

Only thing I can think of that even makes slight sense is that they shoveled to make noise so their kid thinks Santa had been there or something by making noise outside or maybe tracks on their driveway, but even that doesn't make much sense to me.

As for fireworks...people definitely are getting out of hand, and police don't care to stop them. You literally see/hear where it's coming from, and it goes on for a while, and it's the usual spots it happens too, but they don't think to patrol the areas or do anything about it, almost like they're scared of confrontation when it's literally their job.

Cops see confrontations as cause for unwanted and unneeded paperwork. Some will go out of their way to avoid such situations simply because they may already be behind on finishing reports during their shift [and really just want to go home], depending on the area and call load. The bulk of an officer's job involves more forms than they ever would have imagined, which leads to many decent folks becoming burnt out early in their careers.

MILLIONS of dollars to support universities with NIL for athletes as they recruit basketball, football. Some of these athletes are making $10M+ in these deals.

...meanwhile, schools continue to charge insane tuitions. UNC as example supposedly has a budget for just CFB of $50M next year; probably can add another $50M for basketball and baseball too. Yet tuition for someone in-state the tuition is nearly $100k for four years. We all know NIL budgets will only continue to increase at exponential rates but little to offset college expenses.

I'm all for capitalism and getting your market value but valuing entertainment over education on a broader intelligence is upsetting.

                          Humanity.

Was at a food court the week before Christmas. Overheard a couple dudes (late teens, early 20s) at the next table casually chatting about which ChatGPT programs are best for essay writing and which are best for math, how much each costs, etc. One bragged about being able to use his phone to cheat on an exam (because the assembly hall where the test was being taken was so large, there weren't enough teachers/profs to properly supervise). Oh, and then they started talking about their sports betting. One of them complained about losing 50 bucks by betting on United (they'd dropped a League Cup QF at Tottenham that morning), so he was making up for it by betting a 5-way parlay of NHL money lines. "Devils over Columbus - that's a lock, bro!" (The Devils lost that game, BTW.)

                          Rough times ahead.

NOTE: My new post below is in response to a previous gear-grinder, but in itself is not a gear-grinder. It's actually anything but.

So that one is gone, and this morning I was greeted with a brand new advertising campaign. It is for a product I never plan to purchase, but every time it comes on I actually watch it all the way through.

I think this is brilliant marketing that works for today's crowd but also apparently works on me.

Note that these play before videos that I actually am there to watch! Yet, they might run up to three minutes long, and they're quite catchy.

I guess they're not brand new videos and they may be popping up because I'm going to get a new phone next month (though I've been searching about it since July), but they're brand new to me in the form of appearing as YouTube ads.
