Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

We have bad weather, potentially, coming into Atlanta, and of course there are a lot of jokes going around. Which I find fun. Some of the memes from the 2014 snowmageddon are still entertaining to me, and I have made more than a few jokes about it myself.

What's annoying are the people who actually take it seriously though and act like what happened a decade ago (and subsequent reactions over the years) was comparable to what happens in colder states. Georgia literally had like 7 salt trucks for the entire state prior to that ice storm, because there was never a reason to. It's called snowmageddon, but the real culprit was the black ice which is dangerous for anyone and more common to form in areas like this where the warmer ground causes snow to melt and then freeze, icing the roads.

I'm all for having some fun at our expense, but the people who legitimately belittle others are annoying when they don't understand that a state like Pennsylvania wouldn't do all that well if they faced the same conditions either, if they did not have the prebuilt infrastructure to deal with it.

      Stupid football players.

It annoys me to no end when players mimic officials' hand signs without knowing what they mean.

The most glaring example is holding up one fist, which, apparently, they believe means that the play is short of the line to gain when, in actuality, it means "fourth down."

I constantly see defenders signal what they think is "he's short" after a fourth down play. They have no clue how stupid they look.

The most egregious example I've seen lately was in a college bowl game. It may have been aTm vs. USC, but I'm not positive.

A player caught a pass, easily got the first down (the line to gain was at like the 8 yard line), and stretched out to score a TD. A defender immediately put one fist up. You're a moron, sir.

"Remember, when you are dead, you do not know you are dead. It is only painful for others. The same applies when you are stupid."

Lol. I think the only ref sign most of them correctly know is the safety signal.

It grinds my gears when teams post a graphic on social media (usually a score, or news) and the photo they use isn't even from that day's game.

That reminds me of any time I open a news article about like some arrest in my area, it's just a stock photo of handcuffs on wet ground with blue police lights in the background. I'm always hoping for some photo at the time of arrest or the crime scene or something like that.

Well we ended up getting a few inches of snow here, around mid day it warmed up slightly and it all turned into freezing rain, and then at night it dropped back down into the 20s. So there have been some fun videos online of cars sliding around (nothing like 2014).

I've seen a number of silly comments online like like "I'm from originally from Maryland, how do you get stuck in a couple inches of snow? Physics is physics". Which is true. Physics are physics and the physics of roads being built to withstand 100 degrees of heat instead of freezing conditions, not having drainage systems intended for snow, lacking infrastructure in terms of salt trucks, and a different climate presenting different conditions of snow/ice...the physics be different.

It is also amusing to me how much Atlanta transplants complain about "Atlanta drivers" when 40% of metro Atlanta's population comes from other states.

Finally getting around to using one of my gift cards from Christmas.

Gift cards are such a scam. Either forces you to buy from a specific place, or ones like these master card prepaid ones, you can't even use for online purchases.

So now I have to make sure I'm using this specific card during certain physical in person purchases and I don't forget.

Yeah, I moved over from giving gift cards long ago, to giving out cards saying I've donated to the Human Fund in their name.

It is time for the airing of grievances.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

If you think about it, Seinfeld was basically gear grinders: the show. Every episode was either people talking about what bothers them, reacting to things that bother them, or doing things that bother other people. Coming up with new and amazing things to bothered by on a granular level, etc

Maybe not as annoying, but I have around THIRTY Visa or Mastercard gift cards from the last couple years that all have $3-5 left on each of them.

PayPal and others places used to let you merge those cards into your account but apparently that doesn't exist anymore.

My brother had a Vanilla Visa card with I want to say, $30 or so on it and someone used his number. Person was out of state, place we've never been or know anyone from. My brother didn't use any money off it, just went to check the card one afternoon and the balance was gone.
