If you're not on the team, or part of the coaching staff, it sounds absolutely ridiculous when you say 'we' with reference to your team.

I voted that I think it's fine...
It's emotional attachment that makes sports what they are. We care so much about the teams we root for, i don't see why people get all hissy if people use "we" or "us"...

I think it just doesn't sound right when people use we so I voted for the "think it's absurd" one. I've done it like twice for the Lakers. But I don't really use we. It used to annoy me actually. Especially when there's a guy who is a fan of like five different cities teams/schools.Comment

I agree.
Thing is, I went to ND and I don't say "we" when I talk about their football team.
However, when talking about UNC basketball I use "we". I use it for a team I am passionate about. I'm not a psycho or anything but I can't describe the feeling I get when I watch UNC play. It feels very similar to when I played on my own baseball team.Comment

This is hilarious. I just called out a Walmartvine at lunch two days ago. He's a Western Michigan grad who is always saying we when talking about U of M or the Tigers. He even sounds like he's a member of the offensive line and knows Mike Hart personally....
