See this is a generalization once again. Without going into details, I have seen other officers arrested for some of those things you have listed above. We have what is called internal affairs. If you think that every police officer is not required to do his civil duty then you are grossly mistaken as our jobs, way of life, is always on the line. Do not assume that we do not do our job based on one or two incidents in certain parts of the country. This thread should be shutdown as it is an attack on police when it is only an issue for only a select few. As with any job, you have your good and you have your bad. Do forget the bottom line of what we do..........."we protect and serve". I'm done reading here as this thread should be called "anti-police".

People are only highlighting the headlines that make up the very small minority. Where are all the stories of police officers doing good things or even ticketing/arresting their own?

Lmao the link posted in the beginning of the thread is a website that was started by police and populated by police(who had to have their badge numbers and everything else validated before posting) who whined and complained about not being able to break the law and called people who did hold them accountable "rats" and "d****".

We do not talk about arresting our own as it is not something we are proud of. If anything, it brings you down and causes more stress than any normal person could handle.

Yes it's BS that they get to break the law simply because of their profession. I have things I have to do but if I'm caught going 20 over the speed limit I'm not going to get a break. 5-10 maybe but getting a ticket for going way over the speed limit isn't something to complain about, whether you're a cop or not.

The guy from the first quote of your post definitely has a right to complain.

His fellow officer could have given him a speeding ticket, which would have been half the price of the ticket he received. Instead the officer acted like a complete and total douchebag, and gave the guy a reckless driving ticket.

Everyone complains about getting tickets. You, me, cops...everyone. I personally have never got a ticket, but I know I'll bitch about it if it ever happens. Sure it's silly to complain about speeding tickets (especially when it's 20mph over the limit), but people will always complain about getting slapped with punishment. It's human nature to complain about things.

It's unfair for me to pay $20 for a steak, but the bus-boy can pay half of that (or get it for free), just for being an employee at the restaurant. It's unfair that I have to pay $8.50 for a movie ticket, while the concession stand chick gets to go for free + enjoy free food/drinks.

Every job has it's perks. It's just some jobs come with better perks than others.

*Note* I do not care if a police officer gets off with a "warning" after getting pulled over for speeding...depending on the speed they were going. In the example in your original post, I would have given him the speeding ticket---instead of the reckless driving. But then again, I would do this for most people (not cops), if they don't act like jackasses.

Getting of with a "warning" for... DUI, police brutallity, drug operations, sex scandals, money scandals, etc.. is absolute bull. I do agree with you there. I can't stand when people get away with these kinds of acts, solely based on who they are and/or what they do.

However, I am fine with "warnings" for minor things like a 10mph over the limit speeding ticket.

So be fair, you're not going to get a good sample from a message board like that.

It caters exclusively to a very vocal group of people (dicks) who want to bitch about their tickets.

You won't really find a level headed cop who got a ticket on there because they would just get over it (or at least not spend the energy to bitch about it).

That's true however like Dookie said, there's a guy in here who already said that he would never give another officer or firefighter a ticket and I'm pretty sure that he isn't alone, especially when he happily admits to it.

Like I said, I'd still give the guy a ticket.

I just wouldn't be a dickhead and give him double the fines, for a crime based off of a 2mph difference. $80 for 20mph over the limit, $170 for 22mph over the limit.

There's a difference between saying "go on ahead, nothing happened here." And giving a guy a substantial increase in fines, for something as trivial as 2mph.

Edit: But like I said, I'd go with the lower ticket for anybody...as long as they didn't act like a complete dick.

Edit #2: Wow, I just re-read that original post.

He wrote me a summons for RECKLESS driving which is $ 176.00 instead of speeding (17 MPH over speed limit would have cost me $85.00).

That is even worse than the 2mph difference I was talking about. He used the same exact speed limit for the ticket, just bumped him up $90 for a more severe ticket. That's messed up.

It's called police discretion and I would not even consider giving another officer, fire fighter, doctor, nurse, taxi driver, pizza delivery boy, ect a ticket cause you know why???? Cause I can! Since I hate traffic court, I have chosen not to give another thousand or two a fine in place of only warnings as well cause you know why??? Cause I can! When that officer gets his warning just like the general population, he takes a step back and becomes more aware of his driving habits. After a long day of everyone yelling, trying to kill you, ect, it is easy to not notice how fast you are going when you generally go fast to emergency calls for a living. If I was to get a ticket and I have..........then I deserved it and moved on. For the major whiner here complaining that he may get off for going 5-10 over than you got what the other million including officers may get and that is a warning. For those who are going well beyond the speed limit in their own personal car will get a call to their supervisors instead as we handle things differently internally which is worse than a simple dollar amount posted on a piece of paper. I'm done with this whole issue as I do not expect a 19 year old to understand much about how life works in the real world versus watching it on televison or reading about an isolated incident on the world wide web. LATER!
