Re: Last/Longest Road Trip You've Taken

    Buses don't count do they?

Otherwise, the longest I have been on would be to San Antonio from Rolla, MO.
You can make that trip in one day, 13 hours.

If buses count, it would be either from Rolla to Harrisburg or Rolla to Orlando.

Re: Last/Longest Road Trip You've Taken

My last was going to Orlando back in October which is about 170 miles away. Took a little over 3 hours. My longest was either moving from Orlando to Dallas. Or moving from Dallas to Indianapolis. Or moving from Indianapolis to Fort Myers, FL where I am now. lol. I think Indy to Fort Myers took the longest, but I don't know for sure because I was really young when I moved from Orlando and from Dallas. Mileage wise I think Indy to Fort Myers is the longest though, just thinking about it. Took 2 days for that.

I've never actually taken a vacation road trip. I've really only been on one true vacation in my life and that was last summer when I visited one of my best friends in Oklahoma, but I flew there.

Re: Last/Longest Road Trip You've Taken

The last road trip that I went on was last summer (September of 2011).

We left home (Washington) and drove through Idaho, Montana and finally reached our destination of Casper, Wyoming. I went antelope hunting down there with my dad and brother...

We also went to Mount Rushmore and saw the Black Hills of South Dakota. On the way back, we stopped and saw Little Big Horn in Montana. Had a great time and by the end of the trip, we had driven 3,100 miles or so.

It was a great trip... I want to eventually drive back east with my dad and take in some history by visiting some Civil War hot spots.

Actually, I guess the longest road trip I've taken was from my home in Washington to the Rocky Mountains of Tennessee. I was only 3, but I can remember little bits and pieces of the trip. That's where my mom is from and I have eight aunts and uncles down there, as well as my grandparents and about 35 first cousins. Probably a 5,000+ mile round trip or so.

Yeah, Wyoming is PAINFUL. I think it is the fifth or sixth biggest state in the USA land wise, but the least populated state we have... Just miles and miles of nothing.

One more road trip... I flew from Seattle to Dallas back in 2003 I believe, and met my cousin at the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport where he picked me up. He had just gotten out of the Army and drove from Ft. Hood to Dallas. From there, we made the 12 hour trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee. That was a fun trip.

I don't really like driving super long distances that often. The longest road trips I've taken are NC to Connecticut and NC to Florida.
It's desolate. You can drive 50 miles before seeing a house or signs of life and the scenery is boring.

                          Nice quintuple post

My longest would probably have been when I was a kid but I never remember those vacations too much.

But spring break 2011 I drove down to Panama City, FL from Cincinnati, OH with my brother and our friend. According to Google maps that's about 740 miles.

I drove all the way both ways, I have no problem driving long distances, in fact I sort of enjoy it.

On the way down I drove 12 straight hours and we stopped about half an hour out because it was about 2am and we wouldn't have had a hotel room ready at that point. Then I drove the rest of the trip early in the morning.

On the way back it took I believe about 18 hours. Unfortunately there was a terrible accident on 65 N and traffic got slowed down for the longest time. Once we got up to where the accident was and what hadn't been cleared yet, it looked terrible I was getting drowsy by the end of the trip but just chugged a mountain dew about an hour out and jammed to music to make it home.

On trips I always offer to drive long distances, I know most people hate it.

I've driven the width and length of the continent a few times. The worst was the last time when I went from Eugene OR to Vancouver, BC, and across Canada to Toronto. Had to get back as quickly as possible and so I barely stopped—slept in the car for an hour or two here and there. Got stopped for speeding trying to get around a caravan of campers on a rare stretch of passing lane in Northern Ontario and to the cops must have looked like I was on drugs and smelled like a barn animal. Did 3,100 miles in 74 hours. Wanted to die for the last 1,000.

Whoever said don't drive through Wyoming is correct. Did it twice. First time I ended up with diarrhea and had to squat in a ditch off the highway at least ten times and ended up with mosquito bites all over my balls. Second time, our car's alternator burned out outside of Cheyenne. It started pouring rain immediately after the car broke down and we had a whole bunch of luggage strapped to the roof. We had to take a cab into town and the cab driver told us he had been on his way from Florida to Washington when his car broke down and he couldn't afford to leave. He had been there for six months. Anyway, we were stuck there for a few days, and my friend who was with me received news that his father died, so we had to rush him down to the airport in Denver. Finally were able to leave only to break down in Lincoln Nebraska because the mechanic in Cheyenne screwed up installing the alternator. Eff Wyoming.

Back when I was young and dumb... I would drive from Washington DC to either Detroit, or Southwest Michigan a 2-3 times a month.

Longest: Drove from DC-Wisconsin-California when I changed duty stations.

Next up... I'm leaving Friday to check out San Francisco and some of the stops on the way. Fiance has a grad school info session to go to up there. I think I have to check out restaurants and find some good dinner places.
