Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread

I bought a six-pack of "Simpler Times Lager" from Trader Joe's today. I'll be honest, the name "Simpler Times" hooked me into looking it up on my phone. Thought reviews/descriptions seemed decent enough to at least TRY it. Plus, its ****ing three bucks for six of them. Haven't cracked one open yet. I want them to be damn near freezing cold. If it's decent, boom, there's my "get drunk" beer right there.

    Has anyone had it?

Lately I've been indulging in Leinenkulgel's Ocktoberfest. Very smooth. Very refreshing. Beautiful caramel color.

Finally picked up the Sam Adams Winter Classics pack.

Seriously may be my favorite beer. I always anticipate the Winter Pack's release just for this brew, and it never disappoints. The fact that it's not available in sixers makes me a sad panda.

For those who can't read the label, it's the Sam Chocolate Bock. It obviously doesn't come in that bottle as part of the Winter Pack. But boy, is it one heck of a beer. Goes down smooth as can be. Tastes like cold cup of cocoa.

Looks like i'll be picking up another winter pack this coming weekend, as i'm certainly gonna want more of these bad boys. I also enjoy the Holiday Porter, but not as much as these bad boys.

Still wish they didn't include Boston Lager in these packs. Throw in some more obscure, winter proper beers.

I love stouts. I'll have to try the Chocolate Bock. My mouth is watering looking at that pic.

OK, Thirsty Dog's Siberian Night Imperial Stout so far, is the best STOUT I've ever had...EVER. If this available in your zip...you owe it to yourselves to experience this unbelievable Imperial Stout...fo sho
Hell, This Imperial stout is so damn good just to sit and SMELL without drinking it. lol.

A- Appearance: pours thick and solid black, like motor oil...not as thick tho with a nice tan head
S-Smell Aroma is burnt chocolate, lots and lots of chocolate scents w/ caramel and molasses.
T- The taste is complimented by the aroma and is fairly complex. Nutty with a ton of dark, bitter chocolate and roasted grains. Caramel and molasses bring about a balancing sweetness. There is also a nice milky quality that creeps through. Deep layers with hints of dark cherries and some port wine. Finishes strong and smooth which I like in a stout.
O-Overall In a word...FANTASTIC... if all imperial stouts tasted this great I would never drink another.

PS...My thread is slowly dieing here.

Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread

Made my monthly run, ended up with a selection of hoppy beers, as usual:

                    Dogfish 90-Minute IPA (only $10.50 for a 4-pack!)
                    Uinta Anniversary Barleywine
                    Lagunitas Hop Stoopid
                    Orval Trappist Ale

I wasn't that big on the Orval... dunno what it was, but it had a strange herby juniper type of taste to it that didn't jive with me for some reason. Good enough, but I wouldn't buy it again based on that experience.

Hop Stoopid is awesome for any hop heads... great beer.

Uinta's Barlewine is a nice choice... I mostly picked it up because it was $5.99 for some reason along with the rest of their beers. I've had it once before and it's a nice compromise between the uber-hoppy basically bad-*** IPA type Barleywines and the heavy, syrupy ones with more malt and fruity flavors.

Sweetwater IPA, still one of the best IPA's out there.

For me, SweetWater Blue is where it's at. One of the best blueberry beers out there.

And I had this beer last night (mix pack from Kroger) and it was absolutely wonderful. It's brewed with peaches and pecans. You get a nice flavor of peaches but nothing overwhelmingly fruity or anything. If you see this, pick it up and give it a shot. Definitely worth it.

That (lack of) head kinda makes me sad.

I recently bought the Sam Adams pint glass and that thing rules -- I love watching the little circle of bubbles rising from the etching throughout the brew. The Dogfish 90 Minute IPA I served in that thing didn't lose the head until it was swirling around in a tiny puddle at the bottom of the glass... pretty spectacular.

Even if you have some decent beer glasses (I have a couple of Imperial pints, regular pints, and these big-bowled wine glasses that work as snifters), I really recommend trying the Sam Adams glass out. There are a few other etched ones that are special for beer, but it's the most widely-available and pretty much rules because you can use it for almost all beer styles. The only ones I'd skip it on are super-fortified DIPAs, barleywines, etc... things that are normally in 8 oz pours in tulip glasses, basically.

I just somehow scored 2 750mL bottles of Surly Darkness.

                                Boo. Yah.
