Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
No, I know you said you don't have any experience with it - it just stuck out to me. Nothing wrong with mis-categorizing it, as I guess it can be considered a chronic illness in a way.
I don't want to sound like I'm downplaying it or anything, it's a major health issue that can lead to death - but it's really not too much of a deal. The people living with it have been doing so for some time and they know what they can and cannot do and also how to take care of themselves. It's basically where we don't have to think about some of the things we do, people living with Type 1 Diabetes do - it's just an extra step in the planning and execution basically.
Here's a nice, quick article written a few years ago from someone living with it: http://www.theatlantic.com/health/ar...s-like/258399/badComment

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
Cancer is a chronic illness.
liver failure or something etc...
Diabetes is just a child who wont go away. It's about as chronic as asthma or something.
If she's not fat, which I'm assuming she isn't, then she clearly takes care of herself, health-wise, and you probably wouldn't even notice any consequence of her illness.
The biggest issue I can think of that stems from diabetes is that she can't go half on your chocolate dessert when ya'll go out to eat.
Oh no.Comment

I might learn what to do if she ever has an issue with it and she can't help herself or passes out.Comment

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
The definition of a chronic illness is this: A chronic condition is a human health condition or disease that is persistent or otherwise long-lasting in its effects. So, diabetes would technically qualify as it never goes away. An illness doesn't have to be life threatening in order to be chronic. You don't have to die of it, but if you will die with it, it's a chronic illnessMLB: Minnesota Twins
NFL: Philadelphia Eagles
NBA: Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves
European Football: Manchester United, Brighton & Hove Albion
NCAA: UNI Panthers, Iowa Hawkeyes

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
Chronic is a perfect word to use for type 1 diabetes. Having type 1 can be a daily struggle. You could be in great shape, eat all the right things, but then 1 day you wake up with blurred vision or pain in your feet from poor circulation.
Yes, type 1 can be controlled to a point, but it is never going away, it will always need be there until the end.
My uncle recently lost his foot and now my cousin is losing his vision, their lives will be forever changed becuase of this disease.
And SinisterAlex, I would not have any concerns about this girl. Diabetes does not control our life, it just makes us a little more aware of what we can and cannot do.Last edited by MarkCK; 02-25-2014, 03:19 PM. Reason: Didn't see the previous post with the definitionComment

To throw all long-term illnesses in one category and "screen" out women is a bit silly. Diabetes is very different from, say, autism, and yet both are technically in the same category: "chronic illnesses"
and that's not to disparage anyone living with autism. I'm just saying all illnesses are different. You can't judge them by some dumb tag line like "chronic illness"Comment

I think you guys took my post a bit too literally lol... this isn't a thread about medical school, this is a thread about dating. I'm glad you know your terminology but my point was that if you dated someone with diabetes you probably wouldn't even notice it.

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
Wait. This guy got duped on a dating site and is suing them because they didn't warn him he could be meeting strangers who aren't trust worthy?
Has he never been on a date?
Also the lawsuit against CapitalOne is gold. He's suing them because the wire transfers didn't go to addresses under the recipients name.
Let's ignore the fact he processed those wire transfers and knew beforehand that they didn't include that info. So now he wants CapitalOne to pay for his own mistake?
Okay with this guy.

Re: Anyone try online dating sites?
I ended up getting back on POF for the heck of it.
I met a girl yesterday I've been texting off and on for about 2 weeks. We went a Starbucks but I was 20 minutes late because I was stuck at work still. I felt so bad.
As for the actual meeting I thought it was okay, she talked little too much, I really couldn't say something without her interrupting. It was about 45 minutes we talked before she had to go. I text her about an hour later apologizing again and maybe to set up another meet, she responded back saying sounds good, I said okay than.
Haven't heard from her since, oh well. I don't know if I should text her, or maybe she's playing hard to get? But I don't do second texts.Comment
