Re: D-Day
You cannot definitively say that. There are too many other factors involved that would've been altered if the German army had been prepared differently.Comment

Re: D-Day
I said this in the other Hitler thread in the supporters forum, but that was the correct move. Stalin had intended to double cross Hitler long before they finalized their pact to split Poland. Hitler invading the Soviets was a pre-emptive strike to beat Stalin at his own game. Hitler's indecisiveness is the only thing that kept Nazi Germany from bringing the USSR to its knees. The Soviet Union was so poorly planned that everything from rail to communications went through Moscow. Moscow was there for the taking if Hitler hadn't gotten cold feet on the invasion. No Moscow = No USSR.
In regards to honoring the Soviets, I'm torn. On one hand they lost more than any other country during WWII and we could honor those who fought and not necessarily Stalin. On the other hand, the behavior of many of the Soviet soldiers towards the German citizens, specifically the females, during and after the Battle of Berlin was disgusting and sub-human behavior IMO.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: D-Day
I was lucky enough to be in London last week and visited the Imperial War Museum on D-Day. Pretty cool.
Let's not forget how important it was that the Brits held out during the summer of 1940. If the Nazis win the Battle of Britain (and supposedly they were 2-3 days away from wiping out the RAF, only they didn't realize it), it would've been incredibly difficult for the Allies to retake Europe.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: D-Day
Exactly, the reason the Allies could advance on the Germans was the fact that the German Air force had been wiped out. Winning a war without Air Supremacy is pretty much impossible...I was lucky enough to be in London last week and visited the Imperial War Museum on D-Day. Pretty cool.

Re: D-Day
Yeah, they were REALLY close to victory over the Brits by taking out their airfields and infrastructure. I probably need a refresher, but I think the Luftwaffe got its clock cleaned by the RAF during a mass invasion, so Hitler got pissed and changed his tactics from strategical bombing to mass bombing civilians. Thankfully, it was just another one of his major blunders that helped turn the tide in the Allies favor.I was lucky enough to be in London last week and visited the Imperial War Museum on D-Day. I need to cross the pond some day to visit the memorials and museums.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: D-Day
Stalin isn't even in the same area code as Hitler.
Please don't try to compare the NEP/GLF to the Holocaust and World War II.
Stalin was a bad guy, but not even close to Hitler.Comment

I think you may want to recheck your numbers, Hitler killed an estimated 11 million to Stalin's estimated 60 million. My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: D-Day
Rommel wanted the Panzers to be released as soon as the Allies hit the beaches, but OKW thought the main invasion would come at Paix-de-Calais. This was largely due to Patton's presence there as a diversion. Had heavy armor been at the beaches those men would have been had a lot more difficult time than they did. Air superiority or not.Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

Ok, I misunderstood what you said before.
