Re: Having To Change The Water Bottle At Work Unappreciation

..And when they're only e-mailing the black guys in the office to do it... I mean, come on people.

I always did this in my office, but I was the only guy working there for the longest time. Now we have a tankless one, so nobody has to deal with that awkward bastard.

especially bad in DC's case when the girl asking him to do it is damn near bigger than him.
Yeah, I can't comment on the racial aspect, and the women in my offices would just ask any guy walking by to do it....

My only problem is that people so frequently forget that you're doing a favor and start acting as if it is your responsibility.

Just out of being civil, I'd do it once but let her know "this is the one and only time" Suggest that she bring bottled water.

Orrrrrr.....just ignore the emails. If she doesn't respect you enough to get up out of her chair to personally come and ask you, then screw it.

Is she a boss or supervisor?

Or just be a d-bag and say you'll be there in 5 minutes to change it, and never show up. Then be like, my bad I'm busy I'll be there in 5 minutes...rinse, repeat.

But... how do you know only the black dudes are being asked to change the water? Because if that's provable...you're sitting in the middle of a future lawsuit.

I love doing it and volunteer, nothing like getting a lil exercise in the middle of the work day.

LOL Maybe because I see everyone's name one it (3 folks) that she sends the emails to.

She even said before that she won't ask the "other folks" because they won't lift a finger.

There are roughly 15+ white mean near the water cooler that don't get asked to do it but she sends me and the 2 other dudes the email when we are on the opposite side of the building.
                        Concrete evidence/videos please

Then that's your way out...present the E-mail to HR or a boss and point out that issue. Watch it get solved real quick like.

Actually she tried to be slick one day and sent an email to HR asking, "What is the water bottle changing protocal." I called it dry snitching because she knew what she was doing.

Then the HR person said for "us" to periodically walk around making sure that the water bottles are filled. I said to myself, "That is some bull."

As I said before, she is the ONLY person in this place that asks anyone else to change the water bottle.
                            Concrete evidence/videos please

I don't know what your job title is, but you're not in facilities or maintenence or anything are you? That is the only reason I could see the request coming to you as opposed to the other employee's. I would think that falls under those job responsibilities (at least it did in my prior office, we now have tankless systems). If not, then who knows. Just cause you do something once or twice doesn't mean it is forever your responsibilty, but it wouldn't suprise me if somebody thought so.

Next time you get the email, forward it to the other males in the company and just put: I did it last time, it's your turn. Make sure to copy the original sender.

Save these emails and go to a lawyer. You might not have to work again unless you want too.
