Re: The first time you dunked

First dunk-summer between freshman and soph yr of HS

First dunk in game-soph yr of HS against or rivals. Teammates has been trying to get me a dunk all game so I leaked out after a shot by them and had a break away after a nice outlet pass. That coincided with my best game of my HS career. Went 3-3 from downtown, 7-7 from the line and ended with 32.

Favorite dunk- playing some 2 on 2 and I got ball on right side, between elbow and 3 pt line. Took 2 dribbles and knew the guy guarding me couldn't jump very high. Threw it down hard and my elbow hit him on top head on my down.

Most gratifying moment non dunk-SR yr against our rivals on SR night. Guy drives baseline and goes to lay it in and I pinned it on backboard, fed our pg, who fed our sg for a monstrous throw down.

I'm 5'5, 115 and can barely jump. Hasn't happened yet. Not even on an 8footer. I actually can't touch the net. I feel like an unathletic loser compared to y'all. It's is bad for my psychological health. I'm done reading y'all's stories on dunking. Football (the real one with end zones and goal posts and 32 teams, not soccer) is better anyways.

Never on a regulation goal. I'm sure the goal I grew up on was probably 8ft...maybe a little higher. I could dunk on it with a mini-basketball or youth basketball.

Only 5'7" Could barely touch the backboard on our high school goals. I was more known for my J than my hops. lol

At the rec gym my friends and I went to the hoop was adjustable and there was also a big trampoline in the gym. The trampoline was about 2.5 feet high so we made the basket about 12.5 feet. It was pretty cool and we threw down some pretty sick dunks lol

But no, I can't dunk for real. Im 5'11 and can grab rim on a good day, but no higher.

First dunk was on a nerf hoop hanging on my bedroom door.

On a real goal the best I could do was dunk a tennis ball. My hands are a little too small to palm a basketball.

Kind of a crazy time capsule, this thread. My first post (page 3) came three days after the greatest dunk of my life. Five years later - it's still probably the greatest dunk of my life (a mega one-handed power tip-dunk off a missed three-pointer).

I think I was 25 years old at the time of that dunk. Now I'm closing in on 31 and I'm dunking in games only a few times per year as opposed to a few times a week; dunk frequency really seemed to slow down after back-to-back severe ankle sprains in '13, at age 29.

So here's a twist on the original question, for those who could dunk: at what age did you last dunk?

I've only dunked twice, both my freshman year of college. I've since hurt my foot so I can't really jump high enough without fearing about how I'll land.

Don't think I'll ever dunk again. Not on a standard hoop with a regulation ball.

It's funny, first time I did (on a 10 foot rim) I wasn't even trying. Was at the park and a guy on our team shot the ball and I went up to get the rebound (I'm 5'9") and instead of grabbing it, I threw it down off the miss. My older bro was more excited than I was lol. Of course I pulled a hammy after doing that and had to sit out the rest of the night . That was the first time I dunk it. It was pretty amazing. That was actually 22 years ago lol. Yep I'm old now. I can still touch the rim though!

Not a big deal, anyone could dunk in the 90's. You could be 5'5" and dunk on regulation basket. Good old 90's....

Haha, nice story. I would be extremely excited! by the way, did you use any of those vertical leaping ability programs? It used to be really popular back in the 90's. I know I bought some booklet with exercises around 1993.

I remember my first dunk like it was yesterday. I must of been 6 or 7 years old.
I was at my cousins house & we were in their pool. I snuck up behind my cousin Gina & dunked
her head underwater. I didn't know I could drown her by not letting her up for air. Thankfully my other cousin pulled me away from Gina. I probably got 10 good dunks that day. Good times, good times.
