Has anyone ever been around a broken backboard?

One time we were at a Saturday open gym practice so our coach was playing with us. Our 6-6 center drove baseline and dunked right in our coach's face. The backboard shattered. It was awesome. I remember the sound more than anything. It was really loud. I still have the piece of glass.Comment

Re: The first time you dunked

I've only seen the aftermath. I was at a rec in Ann Arbor 15 years ago and it had two courts separated by a drop-down wall. I was on one side and the shattered backboard happened on the other. I was super bummed I didn't get to see it happen but like I said, at least I got to see it immediately thereafter.Has anyone ever been around a broken backboard?

On another note, a lot of fellows on the west side of the state have been tracking a leaper from Kalamazoo Central named Doug Anderson. He's a freshman at Mott Community College (Flint) and I just caught word that he made an appearance on Sportscenter's Top Ten yesterday by, yes, shattering a backboard. I'd suggest taking a look at Anderson's related videos, as he's truly filthy in terms of dunking skill.

My Sophmore year at Bakersfield High School running full court with the fellows during PE. Nobody was really suprised because most of the guys had already done it already. I was also already 6ft. Still I was cheesin all day. Several weeks later I caught one coming off a missed shot and smashed it. Today?? No way. To old. Lol!!!!The poster formerly know as "FLIGHTWHITE"Comment

Re: The first time you dunked

My first and only dunk, if you can consider it one, was when I was 20. I'm 5'11" and was always able to put my hand upside down over the rim. But as soon as I tried to turn it over I'd either lose the ball or stick it straight into the rim and end up on my back. Well I was in the USAF out in Vegas and had lost a lot of weight from the heat and also had just gotten over the flu, which had made me drop about 5 extra pounds. My legs felt great this one day and I got a perfect pass from the left wing driving into the hoop. Dude goes to cut me off and I just decide to go up. I was gonna two hand slap it off the board and try to slide around him. Low and behold, I kept going up. There was the rim and I got scared being that far up. LOL! So I weakly did a two handed drop in, no rim grab, nothing. Next week gained my extra pounds back and could only touch the rim. Man, being half-white isn't any better..... Man, being half-white isn't any better.....

 P.S. Being 43 really isn't helping. Haven't touched a backboard in years....Last edited by BrianFifaFan; 01-26-2010, 05:55 PM.Note to Tiburon Marketing:

Re: The first time you dunked

 being 5'5 doesnt matter ;/I'm 5'5". That's your answer.

(20 years old. For those that are curious. And yes, i'm a dude. Lol.)

Though I have the between the legs dunk pretty wired on the Nerf thing hanging from my closet door. (It's been hanging there since I was like 8. It's still sort of fun to shoot around on once every blue moon or so. And yes, I do still live with my parents. Lol. I commute to college.)#SimnationComment

Re: The first time you dunked

Here is my one bit of hoops glory:

An extremely overweight 8th grader is playing school basketball for the C-Team... yes, the C-Team; the scrubiest of scrub players. The Power Forward, who hasn't scored a single point all season, sees a loose ball break out of the opposing team's hands and promptly scoops it up. As he begins his shuffling towards the opposing team basket without a defender in sight he starts to slow down in order to control the dribbling ball. "2 points" is all he thinks as he focuses on the rim. As soon as this chub-tastic kid reaches the foul line the ball bounces off his left foot, where he kicks it and it swiftly goes out of bounds. Fail.

I was in 6th grade it was awesome.

I setup one of those Nerf door rims in my room, I was throwing down 360's/tomahawk jam's the works. None of the imaginary defenders could stop me, I capped it off by scoring the game winning three at the end of regulation.

Re: The first time you dunked

 Haha Great Thread...

First time I dunked was when I was 18 (19 now) I was playing a pickup game with my friends in the gymn and I got a steal and I just took off like a bat out of hell, and was going for the layup (mind you I was 6-2 or 6-3 at the time) and I jumped and got really high and it just kind of happened, I wasn't going for a dunk, hell I didn't even know I could do it, but I was up above the rim and I jammed it home. It is one of the most incredible feelings I have ever had, Did I do that? Everyone was stunned and I'm white lol. Now I'm 6-5 and can dunk with ease,

I started playing ball again today, it's been a while, after my dad got sick, I kind of got out of everything, but it was real nice today and I was tired of staying inside so I shot some hoops. Then I did something I never did, after I worked out I just had alot of confidence and for whatever reason I wanted to see if I could just go straight up and dunk it under the rim, no run and jump, I just wanted to see how my vertical was. So I went straight up and too my damn surprise I slammed it down. It truly is one of the most MASCULINE feeling you can have. I can't wait to dunk on some people when I play in a league this year. Re: The first time you dunked

8th grade right after basketball season, we played about 10 straight games halfcourt so while everybody was gone to get water I started attempting to dunk. It seemed like it took forEVER. I was above the rim but was trying to dunk too hard so it what hit the back rim and bounce out.

One of my friends who didn't ever play basketball said "dunk the ball downward so it goes through"

First attempt I tried I made it. He was my only witness. When everybody else came back in and I tried to show them of course I kept missing.

I got my first dunk in a game during aau that summer. They intentionally made me hang court so I could dunk. I was dunking two hands and backwards by then.

That AAU team was the most instrumental over my career for dunking, we had a bunch of atheletes. So our layup line turns into this game called "bang" *pause*

Instead of the right lane laying the ball up and the left line rebounding. The right lane dunks and the left lane has to contest the attempt. For the one guy on the team that couldn't dunk he would often have somebody from run from the left hand side and throw an alley while you thought you were blocking his layup.

 GOODTIMES!

Now I'm 28 and I just wanna be able to dunk at least once before 2010 is overEricmaynor3.com
