Re: The first time you dunked

4 years/40 lbs ago, shooting around on my first fall break from College, found I had some lift and after a bunch of misses, got one down.

I'm 5'10" btw. I thought it was pretty big at the time because i was overweight (always have been and obviously am moreso now). At 240, i can barely get halfway up the net. I plan on dropping the college weight in 2010 but easier said...

      Been dunking for a while now.....(Im 6'7)
Ive always had a above average vert as well..***ns in the family lol

I think my first dunk on regulation was around when I was 14....It was simple as my brother throwing me the ball at the gym and asking "Can you dunk that?"....and I did lol...it was around the time I really started playing ball on the regular...

Now the first time I dunked ON somebody is a different story...its the 247th best feeling in the world...

True, that is what I miss the most about losing athleticism as I get older. I dunked on some small dude on a pick-n-roll this Saturday in one of my winter leagues. It was a weak one handed dunk, I didn't even scream or anything though the other team started laughing at the dude I dunked on. He was like 5'9 though so it wasn't even worth celebrating.

Personally I got more amped off putback dunks, though I've had less than a dozen in my whole life. Two handed putback dunks, especially in traffic...man those are (I'm not gonna say 'were' just yet!) amazing.

For the sake of the thread, I think it's worth noting that I'm still riding the high that came with my putback dunk I wrote about almost two weeks ago. I wake up every morning feeling like a million bucks.

Re: The first time you dunked

My first time dunking was in gym class two years ago, I tried about 5 times before finishing. It was a weak *** one handed dunk, so I don't feel that accomplished about it now. I'm a shooter anyways, I finish strong/high at the basket (usually slapping backboard) so it doesn't really bother me that I can't dunk in a game.

It was at an open gym warming up. Some of the older guys were fooling around (our 6'8 center was throwing them down). I came from the right wing and jumped off my right leg and left handed threw down a rim grazer. I was 5'11 1/4 then.

Now at 6'1 (6'2 w shoes) I could dunk over this last summer but barely.

From 1999-2003 I was able to one step and dunk (never off of two feet through). Off a spin move on the baseline was my favorite dunk.

I am on the march trying to get back what athleticism I can. I turn 29 in two months and I hope to be dunking again.

All this describes when i first dunked except we just had an open gym and i wasn't kicked off. I hope to reach more than 6'1 or 6'2 my dream is to get 6'4 but atleast 6'2 6'3. I'm 16 and look like i could be in 7th or 8th grade. no facial hair at all lol

                  Never.

I may be able to in the next few years, though; we'll see. I'm 6'0" and 17 1/2 years old. I can touch the rim, but I'm a couple inches short of getting the ball over the backboard. I'm sure I could do it if I really tried, but I haven't really done any exercises to strengthen my legs. It would be cool to do it, but I don't care to work my butt off to do it as I don't play a lot of basketball.<input id="*******" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">

Back in high school at 6-1, when I played ball, I could grab rim easily, but my small hands wouldn't allow me to throw down. I'd always lose the handle on the way up or when I'd go to grab rim I'd lose the handle and bank the ball in off the backboard as I grabbed the rim. Now that I'm at 230, rather than 170, I don't quite have the same leaping ability. I was so close.

Haha, I remember all those dunks on 8' (or a bit more) baskets...it was so fun! But I always looked at the baskets next to the lower ones (the ones that were almost regular height) and felt bad for lying myself with the lower baskets... When I first dunked on a real basket (at 17 or 18) I felt like I had accomplished what was missing.

15 years old was playing at the elementry school playground 2 blocks from my house on a saturday morning. They had redone the playground asphalt so it wasnt quite 10 feet. I dribbled took my 2 steps and was shocked I slammed it down two hands. The hoop had no net so I remember saying "did that go through?" So I did it a second time. Of course nobody was around to see it.

Re: The first time you dunked

I've been trying to dunk since I was 12 (not a regulation height), because i've been taller. I can't remeber the first time I got.

actual dunk with witnesses, 14 at my neighbor's house, 3 times a game.

He had the goal facing the garage so we could get a running start and about a 25x37-ish square to play with. I got the inbound, passed it,(because checking is gay) he passed it back, and there was really nobody in my way. I want to say I jumped from about 3 feet away and went 2 handed. I didn't really think about the ride down, and I clipped the pole with my shoulder. But I was playing HS players so it wasn't really a big deal to them

On the very next possession, he got tripped up trying to set a trap. I was smarter than to go at it straight this time, and I went at it at an angle, 2 handed. I had the biggest ****-eating grin on my face. I think it over somebody too.

Later in the game I was in the key and got a screen. went up 1 handed, but kinda held onto the rim, tilting the whole backboard...ever since then, the backboard has needed constant adjustment. I still owe him a new backboard.

First time I've dunked? I assume you mean on a regulation sized hoop.

If that's the case, no. None. Never. I am a 5 foot 9 white boy. The only thing I have been able to dunk in my lifetime is oreos.
