Re: Drop Outs are Killing the Economy
I view drug testing as just another form of discrimination. I know some drug users who do very well in school, but would lose their financial aid if having to undergo drug tests.Comment

Re: Drop Outs are Killing the Economy
Well, I fully believe in the value of education, and I find that people with degrees get desk jobs, and those that don't , work retail management or sales, or manufacturing.
I am 27, and have a 2.5 years to get a 4yr. I do intend to get the degree, not because of money , but because of the type of job I'd like.
However I work in sales to metalworking manufacturers, and the things they do/make are very very tough, and these people are very very smart in many many respects.
Somebody has to make the things the MIT engineers design, and in many cases, the machinists I work for make these products better in prototype because they have experience with these parts in the production environment.
That being said, when i wanted to do radio, I figured the way UP was to get experience. It was to get a degree so I could network.
In my opinion the issue is many employers requiring college degrees, for jobs that simply don't require them.
There is an argument made on msnbc.com that most college grads don't recoup the debt they incur, and if they took that money and invested it or saved it ,etc. they would retire w/more than an average college grad. Not sure this is true, but it is an interesting take.
I don't like how society looks down on blue collar workers anymore. I used to but now I work with them, and they're sharp people.
I don't think you gotta be able to write a legal brief to get to heaven, and there's some guy in some book that was written long ago, who intimated that admittance is more UNlikely for those who can LOL.Comment

Re: Drop Outs are Killing the Economy
My mother always told me this:
"You get a degree so no one will have a legitimate excuse to deny you a job or promotion"
Experience is always more important than degrees but there are a ton of people I know who have 10-15 yrs of experience who are denied promotions because they dont have the education.Comment

Re: Drop Outs are Killing the Economy
What's even worse is that a lot of teenagers these days are aware of the decreasing value of a college degree. I talked to the group of kids are in my art therapy class (ages 13 to 17) to and a good portion of them said they don't plan to go to college. When I asked them why they claimed that most of the individuals they do know with a degree either don't have a job or are working somewhere that doesn't require a degree.SimWorld NBA 2K19 Fictional Draft Classes

At least some of them plan on going in to the military though. Much better than being on the streets involved in the gang activity that a lot of them are involved in.SimWorld NBA 2K19 Fictional Draft Classes

Re: Drop Outs are Killing the Economy
All 3 posts above are true...but is the chance for promotion worth the 48k it costs to get an education in WA state?
I tell you what though, I know I guy from SC who's my age and an engineer at Boeing and he said his school cost him about 20k total. So who knows, maybe i should move.Comment

Our Economy was ruined by 2 things.
1) The Greed of my parents generation.
+
2) Technology. Technology evened the playing field."Good music transcends all physical limits, it's more then something you hear, it's something that you feel, when the author, experience, and passion is real" - Murs (And this is for)Comment

It's not like the past where you could work at Ford starting at 18 and slowly work your way up to higher management without a degree....Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment
