1565 total cals today. Over my mark but not a disaster. Still have to drink 4 more cups of water before I hit the sack.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
Great job to everyone! Losing weight is the hardest thing in the world to do.
If I could give my quick testimonial. It actually starts with my best friend, who went from 350 pounds to 200, on a 6-3 frame. His doctor told him it had to happen if he wanted to see his daughter graduate from high school in a few years. His approach was simple, eat less and better, and excercise. The exercise would not be doing something he may end up giving up on but something he would still be able to do many years from now. So he and his wife started walking like banches.
A couple of years later, upon seeing my doctor for my 40 year checkup, I was told about the same thing. I had ballooned to 220 on a 5-9 frame. I took the same approach, and then some. No more sugar or processed white flour. I disciplined myself to eat 1/3 less at each meal, plus my wife does a great job of cooking healthy. Apples have become my main snack (oh I love crisp Gala apples now, can't live without them). Cold or heat, snow, rain, or sleet my wife and I walk everyday a minimum of 2 miles (to echo the importance of going through this with someone). I supplement that with 5 sets of 25 pushups. It is simple and it works for me. In 50 years I can and will be doing the same thing, God willing.
In one year, I am down to 170. I am not finished. I have never put myself on a timeframe nor have I ever thought of being on a diet, I have changed my lifestyle. I feel great. I wasn't sick once this winter (and I teach 3rd grade). I went from tight 38s to loose 34s, I have toned up and can never see myself letting go again.Comment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
Damn, Streets. You don't even look like the same person.
Anyway, I'm having a hell of a time trying to gain weight. I'm 6'3" 165 and I want to get up to about 185. However, I don't want it to be 20 pounds of fat so I eat healthy, but if I don't eat constantly I drop down into the 150's.
Three years ago I dropped about 30 pounds of fat, and gaining weight is so much tougher for me personally.Comment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
CharlieBrown and Streets, great job on your weight loss!! Those pictures really show a different looking person for each of you. It's like it takes years off of your looks when you lose weight like that.
Today I am fasting. I think it's important to try to show control over your eating habits and an occasional fast is something I do to show my control over food. I had a half a dill pickle for breakfast and a V8 Low Sodium large can for lunch. For dinner I will probably just have some grapes.
I've spoken with my doctor about this, in addition to trainers, and they say it's ok to do on non-workout days. You don't really want to fast on days you're going to work out though as it can cause issues with passing out if your sugar is too low.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Yeah I think it's almost easier to not eat at all than to eat just a little. Because once you eat something you get into that thinking about more food routine. I"m still on the fence about these grapes, leaning towards not eating them at all.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
LOL well my trip to the GP was a complete blow out of the diet but i was back at it hard the next day so hopefully the damage won't be too bad.
I'm away for a few days with work so when i get back i think i'm going to start weighing myself daily as well. I used to do it once every week / 2 weeks but i think the daily weigh in will help keep me more focused.
I normally don't miss meals but i will prob have to miss meals today. I'm working in a country town and my day is fully booked with no breaks and the nearest store where i could buy some lunch is probably a 30min round trip. I'm just going to have to skip lunch and have a slightly bigger dinner instead. My flight left the airport at 6am this morning so all i had for breakfast is the OJ and muffin they gave us on the flight which isn't the best quality food but not much i could do about it (had to be up at 4.45am in time to make the flight anyway).
I think tonight in my motel room i'm going to do a circuit of:
20 pushups
50 situps
50 star jumps (jumping jacks to you guys)
and repeat that 5 times. Should be a decent little workout and i won't have to leave my motel after dark to do it.Comment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
Well the day is over for me and here's what I did:
about 200 calories total, not a complete fast but not bad
2 walks of about 30 minutes each with the dog
I would imagine I did well overall. I spent all day playing God of War 3 so I imagine I burned some calories fighting Hades too, LOLStreaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
Damn, man. That's crazy. I've fasted once or twice for Ramadan. My dad is Iranian and a Muslim. Though he is not hardcore or strict with the rules, he does fast every year. I tried it just to see what he goes through, and if I could do it. For my fast I just didn't eat or drink when the sun was up, and THAT was hard. I can't imagine going a whole day on 200 calories... that's just insane.Comment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
This whole low cal diet thing seems like it's just cheating! I can eat an Arby's Large Roast Beef Sandwich (2 packets Arby's sauce), a can of Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup Lite, a packet of Sam's Choice pistachios, and 2 Spotted Cow beers and my total would only be @ 1147 calories. That just seems insane to me. Is that as bad as it sounds, or just not really as much food as I think?
on that diet, you will lose weight but turn to skinny fat where you will weigh little but have a high body fat percentage
you need to eat high protein per calorie foods such as steak, chicken , eggs, greek yogurt, fish
these need to be the staples of your diet and then once you get enough protein for the day (1 g protein per pound of lean body mass or your target weight) you can eat whatever you want to get to your total caloriesComment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
Sting - don't forget, it's not just the calories you do but the QUALITY of the calories. Of course when you start you don't want to change everything all at once or you'll get exasperated in a hurry. So eat what you like within your calorie range you've set but also keep in mind to try to eat healthier as well whenever possible. For example, have an Arbys sandwich but instead of fries or a shake on the side get a salad with low-cal, low-fat dressing. You will start to see that you can eat a lot MORE of healthier stuff and it will be so much easier to manage calories when you eat that way as you won't be so restricted on how much you can eat.
Also try to simply replace one thing bad you do per week. So for instance if you eat every sandwich with a bunch of mayo then maybe one week try miracle whip light, then the next week try switching to mustard. Remember you must be able to tolerate and live with your choices so if you realize that you hate mustard and need real mayo then don't force yourself to switch. This is about creating a lifestyle choice for you and you will not stick to it if you hate it. Pick your battles. Know what you can live with from here on out.
Streets - it's very tough to do the fasting. I'm happy that I was able to keep my calories low yesterday but I am honestly a little disappointed I was unable to do a complete, hard fast with zero food. I'm happy though at least I was able to get by without a headache or feeling ill, which sometimes happens during a fast for me.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
This morning here is what I have and what I packed for lunch:
Breakfast
1 organic brown egg
1.5 egg whites
1/2 cup low fat 1% milk
1 serving low-fat cheese crumbles
2 slices of yellow onions
1 cup of low-cal orange juice
TOTAL: 325 calories
Lunch
Grotons Garlic Lemon Fish (2 squares)
Steamed vegetables (1/2 bag)
1 blueberry lowfat yogurt
TOTAL: 280 calories
I don't know what I'm having for dinner but I'm thinking the big salad. I have fat club after work so I usually am really hardcore about being pumped when I get out of that for eating something super healthy. So I'll probably roll with the big salad with lots of vegetables, some low-fat cheese, turkey strips and low-cal dressing.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
