Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
The juice and milk alone would be 270cals alone from the two different online calculators i use not to mention the cereal and banana.
I read that 10 thing blog entry and it was excellent. Very well written and raised some good points.
I've only been able to have breakfast and dinner the last 2 days because i'm working crazy 12 hour shifts with no stores etc nearby in a remote town.Comment

Not to call you out or anything Odogg but you are way under in working out your cals for this meal.

Milk is 70 caloriess a glass (in my defense here I think i was closer to 3/4 a glass)
cereal is 110 calories
banana is 80 calories
so that's...er...335 Calories, not 280.
So yes, you're right that I was wrong. And don't worry, I kind of said that's why I shoot for 1200 calories instead of 1500, because with math errors like this and then forgetting the occasional snack I end up truly at 1500 each day!
DINNER
5 unsalted saltine crackers (70)
5 slices of 2% lowfat cheese (140)
12 olives (30)
3 slices of 98% fat free turkey (50)
So I finish the day about 1,250 calories intake and 521 calories output. I'm calling it in early tonight as I need to get up earlier for work tomorrow.Last edited by ODogg; 03-30-2010, 08:35 PM.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
My advice to you TIm would be to try these things:
1. Tell yourself if you want pizza then you can have it, BUT you have to make it yourself. This will require time and more effort but allow yourself the guilty pleasure if you do have to have it. The goal is to change some things at a small pace like Jdurg said. If you want a cheeseburger, stop at the store, buy the ingredients and cook it. When you start cooking for yourself you will be able to eat MUCH healthier and still enjoy some of the foods which aren't as healthy for you (which maybe later on you'll eat more sparingly).
And although this may not sound like that big of a deal it can be huge. A burger from a fast food place can have 800 calories and 75 grams of fat whereas one you fix at home may have 250 calories and 20 grams of fat. HUGE difference. So try to promise yourself that you can still eat less than healthy for now so long as you cook it yourself. This is a big start toward eating healthier.
2. Instead of telling yourself you'll work out tomorrow, thinking in your mind you're going to start biking for 30 minutes or whatever tomorrow..just decide to do it today but in no big way. So for example when you get home you go out and take a 15 minute leisurely walk. The trick is to just get into the habit of doing something. It doesn't matter if you walk fast or not. The biggest hurdle is to not think of working out as doing this big, planned event. Just say, ok this week I will walk outside 3 times for 15 minutes. And when you've done it you will feel like you accomplished something. In other words, don't worry about the workout, worry about simply doing the habit of something physically healthy. And after you've done 3 walks @ 15 minutes each for a week or two maybe up it to 20 minutes. Or change it to 4 walks @ 15 minutes each. Just commit to a little more each week.
The bottom line for this exercise is twofold, to quit thinking about doing big things and just do something. Then make that something a habit. The end result of that will be you will lose the depression. You will quit dwelling on your failure and you will start getting a sense of accomplishment.
And lastly, and this may sound cliched, think about your life as being today. We don't know if tomorrow will exist for any of us. This is your life today, start living or get to dying. Find something to motivate you to just do these above two simple steps and you will begin to feel better about yourself and start seeing some progress.Comment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
Hey Matt, i'm glad it has helped you. I believe the whole physical fitness & weight loss thing is 90% mental. Most of what I've seen on the subject has been focusing on diet & exercise, what to eat, what not to eat, what to do at the gym, when to do it, etc...but the reality is that most of it is in your head and how you view things, how you approach them, why you are motivated, why you may not be motivated. I am at the stage in my program where I am focused mostly on the mental aspect in regards to learning.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
BREAKFAST
1 Organic Brown Egg (70)
1 Whole Wheat Light Toast (35)
1/2 tbsp unsalted butter (30)
Cheerios with 1/2 cup skim milk (150)
1 cup Light Orange Juice (50)
TOTAL: 335 Calories
For lunch I have a turkey sandwich w/lowfat cheese and lettuce (w/mustard), potato w/unsalted butter, grapes, 1 cheese snack and steamed vegetables. Not sure what out of that I'll eat, but I like having a choice.
For gym time today I am switching off the elliptical and back to the bike. Friday I'll be doing a marathon on the bike (13.2 miles) to finish off March. Then starting Monday I'm changing from cardio machines to cardio weights (lots of reps, low weights). Time to switch it up.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
You may want to focus on keeping your fat content low Sting. I think that's a huge part of it. When I focused on low fat man the weight just came off. The danger though is limiting fat can make you feel hungry as fat tends to fill you up. But try the lowest fat you can get away with and see if you're able to get by without being hungry. If so you will see much better weight loss.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

258.8 pounds for me today, my lowest weight since September of 2009. I'd LOVE to be able to get to 248.9 pounds as that would be my lowest weight in 7 years!!Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
You can do it ODogg. You're only 10lbs away bro! Keep it rockin and stay focused. Just stay motivated to do your cardio EVERYDAY. That's the hardest part for me. My legs are tired from yesterday and I don't wanna go today but I have to force myself.
I will try the low cal/low fat thing route today O and see how that feels.Comment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
Thanks Sting! Yeah I'm going to try like heck to get over this 250 pound mark as it's been the bane of my weight loss existence.
I remember what I did was log my food and shoot for less than 25 grams of fat content per day. It was pretty tough, it seems everything has fat, like EVERYTHING, even foods you'd never dream would have fat, LOL. But I remember when I did it I lost weight really fast. But man it can get mentally grueling to try to stay in the 20-25 grams of fat per day and that is why I went back to calories. But see if it works for you!Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
I know what you mean about the body feeling tired. I asked my doctor about it and he said just to make sure I got 7 hours of sleep and plenty of water and that it would not be an issue. You may want to do like me though and switch up the cardio type you do in the gym. Like I did elliptical Monday and Tuesday and today I'm doing bike, then tomorrow I'll probably do treadmill and Friday the bike again.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
That's the funny thing that goes back to healthiness. You can eat 1500 calories in a day on one day and be healthy and do 1500 calories the next and be unhealthy. The difference is like the first day you had 25 grams of fat and the next you had 119 grams. You will definitely see a huge difference in weight loss when you can factor in fat content.
Like I said though, the issue i've read (and experienced somewhat) is that by lowering fat a lot you can often feel hungry when you would not if you had fat in your diet. But if you can manage to not feel hungry then by all means it is definitely best approach IMO. Of course it requires more effort too because now you're not only monitoring one number (calories) throughout the day but now you're monitoring two (calories, fat).Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
