On the biggest loser they lose weight at a much faster pace than any of us here are losing weight.
Normal weight vs bigger and stronger? That wasn't the argument ODOgg

Biggest Loser isn't even realistic. The torture that those people are putting their bodies through in such a short period of time isn't healthy. AT ALL. It gives Americans hope/sense that it can be a short and quick process. But that is far from the truth. I wouldn't hold any weight in those shows.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

It could be the argument though, I'm trying to lose weight and thus not be obese. I'm not to the point yet where I have the luxury on focusing on fine-tuning my body with making this stronger and that more slender, my goal is simply to carry less weight right now. Later I will work on chiseling out better features like arms or a better looking chest, etc.

I know Biggest Loser isn't realistic, I'm just saying that for obese people it's usually best to lose weight quicker than to carry it longer. Sure you shouldn't lose it as fast as they do on the show and yes losing weight fast can be dangerous. But walking around each day obese is dangerous. I'll take my chances that I'll have issues losing weight quicker instead of taking my chances on being obese and losing it slower.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Yea man, same here, I've lost 22.5 pounds since March 1st and I feel incredible as well. I mean like the difference of night and day from where I was at back earlier in the year.

Would I love to eat more? Of course. But if it was up to my own desires I'd be eating about 4,000 calories a day. I actually know what it's like to feel hungry again. Then I eat something nutritious. I'm not starving myself by any means.

And if I'm losing muscle as well as fat then I'd like to know how I can still do all of the same weights I could do a few months ago on the bench, incline, etc. Wouldn't it mean i'd be forced to do less weight if I was losing muscle mass?

Anyways, everyone do what you think is best. If in doubt consult your doctor. My doctor was pretty proud of me last time we talked. I'm sure it'll be even better this time.

Not really because muscle mass isn't the ONLY thing that factors into strength. While it is a key contributor, it isn't the only thing that matters.

Yeah but if he was starting for not doing any weights at all he could still be adding muscle/strength even while in a cal deficient. Newbie gains are a wonderful thing. I'm a big believer that when you lift and diet at the same time you won't be losing too much muscle. Look at the natural bodybuilders, those guys often diet down from 250lbs with a high body fat to a ripped 190lbs and seem to lose minimal muscle.

TMAGIC i watched an excellent documentary about fat loss the other night and what you said is true about homeostasis but for naturally fat guys like me (ie our natural set weight is high) we have to eat like this forever. I am under no illusion that i'll be able to eat "normally" once i get to my goal weight, this is a permanent lifestyle change and that's the only way it works. With that being said i'd probably average close to 2k cal per day other than when i'm fasting so it's quite easy to eat that many cals on a long term basis.

As for biggest loser it is interesting to see that quite a large number of contestants still end up getting fat again when they are off the show. Goes to show that these ultra fast diets do have a tendency to backfire because they are so hard to maintain and people quickly put the weight back on once they stop.

Only thing with that is, even if you do keep up with this diet, any time you deviate away from it, taking in more calories, you will be gaining weight. Slowly but surely. Just something to think about.

I can't believe you want to keep up with eating how you are. I couldn't do it man. lol

Nobody is being pissy. Just trying to offer up some knowledge thats all.

Research shows that dieting the way you are will result in weight gain within a year. So I'm just trying to help you make more informed decisions.

Hey TM, what diet do you suggest ie how many cals etc for a diet, what macro breakdown etc?

lol I love when people say that. I think research would show that once anyone stops their diet (whatever kind of diet) and starts eating like they used to then it would result in weight gain as well. Don't you think?

There are some doctors and studies that say that the low-carb diet is fine; even studies that show that there is no long-term ill effects from it as well. You don't agree with those doctors and those studies, you agree with the doctors and studies that fit your agenda. I don't think there is a right or wrong, I think different diets work differently for different people. That's pretty much fact. Don't you think?

There IS a right or wrong though. That is isn't an opinionated discussion. Low carbs is NOT the best route to take for someone that works out. I am really bothered by whoever told you that would be a good idea.
