Don't worry about that and just swim in whatever is comfortable. I've seen dudes way bigger than your 250 going shirtless at the pool. No big deal.

Honestly, just take it off. I know there's a lot of insecurity issues with that(I've had that problem before too), but personally I respect people who are overweight a lot more when they don't wear a shirt. Just take it off and be happy with who you are. Who cares what someone else thinks about you ya know. I always see overweight people wearing t-shirts when they swim and it just looks weird and you always know that they're insecure about themselves. I just think it looks a lot better when overweight people swim without shirts as it shows that they accept who they are and aren't hiding themselves under a shirt. Besides, even if someone laughs or calls you a name or whatever(which probably won't happen unless you have some huge *******s or little immature kids there), just realize that you are trying your best to get back in shape and use that criticism as motivation.

Anyway, how much weight are you guys losing a week? Right now I'm losing about 2-3 pounds a week. I haven't changed the way I eat. No diet or anything. I've just been exercising 30 minutes a day. I'm thinking about adding in a diet to go along with exercise. 2-3 pounds just isn't cutting it for me. Way too slow I think. I've just never been a diet person. Somehow I can find the motivation to exercise, but can never find the motivation to eat right... lol.

Damn man 2-3 lbs a week without dieting is my dream. I can stick to the workouts it's the eating healthy where i slip up. 2-3 lbs per week is pretty quick when you think about it. In 3 months that's 24-36 lbs which is very significant.

Hmm, when you add it up like that I guess that is pretty good. Makes me wonder how much I could lose if I actually start dieting to go along with my exercise. The only thing I'm doing in regards to eating is counting my calories. I'm not eating as much and I'm maintaining about 1500 calories a day. I'm just not eating any healthier. I had Taco Bell a couple weeks ago. Added up to 1100 calories(which is quite ridiculous for one meal.. can't believe how many calories is in fast food. and all I had was 1 beefy burrito and a crunchwrap supreme) and I didn't eat another meal the rest of the day. Just snacked and didn't go over 1500 cals.

I wonder if losing weight has anything to do with age? I'm 20 so if there is something to age in regards to losing weight maybe that's why I'm losing that much weight without dieting.

Well at the end of the day it's basic maths. If you are getting 1500 cals per day regardless of what type of food you get it from and your body burns 2500 cals per day you'll lose weight pretty quickly. Being in a calorie deficit is a diet in my books so you are already doing both.

I def think it's easier to lose weight when you are younger and its also easier to build muscle because of all the testosterone in your system.

Yeah I was just thinking that. I've just always thought of 'dieting' as eating right, which I haven't been doing, just not eating as much basically.

BTW - burning 2500 calories a day? That's a ton. I burn about 415 a day with a quick 30 minute workout on the elliptical. I'd have to run for 3 hours on that thing to burn 2500. lol.

So to burn 2500 calories, I'd have to run on the elliptical for 6 hours straight. I hope that's a typo on your part otherwise I couldn't imagine what one would do to burn that many cals a day.
Lol i'm not talking about just how many cals you are burning during exercise. When i say burn 2500 cals i'm talking about your basal metabolic rate (ie how many cals your body burns just to function) + any activity you am doing.

According to a few different online calculators at 5'11, 215lbs my basal metabolic rate alone is just over 2100 cals not including any physical activity i do throughout the day.

My basal metabolic rate is 3041.13 :/

I figure with weight watchers I'm taking in around 2k calories a day, maybe even up to 2200..

I need to get going on the exercise bit, my eating is good, but with a newborn I don't have a ton of time. Occasionally I'll make it out to play some full court basketball but that's about it.

ODogg, how could you weigh yourself every day? That would make me insane! Like this morning, for kicks, I weighed myself when I woke up and was at 351.8. Well I get ready for work and what not and right before I leave and weigh myself and was in at 350.6. I usually stick to one weigh in a week at the same time on the same day.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Well here's why Pete - I really have no choice because when I used to do it every week I'd cheat a bit more thinking "oh i have 4 days before weigh-in". So now I think "tomorrow I have to weigh-in" so I don't eat that extra bit of turkey or whatever. I really don't freak out anymore if I step on the scale and I weigh in at 1 or 2 pounds more than the day before. It just helps me to know that I'm in the general range of where I should be, in other words I treat it as something I answer to but not something that I adhere to as gospel. So

So yesterday I worked out as follows: treadmill for 10 minutes (-60), elliptical for 15 minutes (-140) and then weights for 20 minutes (-200??) for a total of -400 calories burnt (guesstimating here). I didn't eat any dinner last night. I just didn't feel like it (was not hungry at all). I did eat a bit of ham, a few chips and salsa...oh yeah and some olives too...and finished the day at about 800 calories. So yesterday calories in vs. calories out had to have been a huge deficit.

This morning I had an omelet of two eggs (140), cheese (60), 1 medium mushroom (10), red onions (10), some salsa (40) and a dash of milk to make it fluffy (30) for a total of 290 calories.

I'll tell you what, if you guys are looking for a breakfast that is low cal and fills you up, then try eating the above one. For 290 calories I feel like I've eaten a huge amount. Honestly I don't even know if I'll eat lunch at my normal time today.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Thought I'd finally join in the discussion instead of just sitting on the sidelines reading about everyone else.

I started out a few months ago at 308, I know I was up higher than that, probably about 315 at my most when playing ball in college. Anyway, a few months ago I decided it was time to start working out again and I have been doing an OK job of that but mostly in the past couple of months my eating style has changed dramatically to eating much better foods and counting the calories. I keep myself to 2300 or under most days, some days I let myself get to 2500 with an occasional "don't care" day where i can have up to 2850 or so. Everything has been working really well and I also just joined a new gym in town that will be opening in about a month. On top of that I am training with my girlfriend to walk a marathon in June.

Overall so far I am down to 277.4 this morning. I am one of those who weigh myself every morning at about 6:15 because it motivates me. I understand that my weight can fluctuate a lot but either way that number motivates me to keep going. I have to say way to go to everyone in this thread and hopefully I can keep going just like all of you guys.

Is Coors Lite like 1pt a bottle on weight watchers? And how many points do I get a day?

I assume Coors and Miller and all the light are 2 pts but you should really limit alcohol intake. It's one of the big things for me as I am a drinker. With a new born I'm just giving myself one night a month to let it out. It happens to be this Saturday night. Next time will be the concert I'm going to at the end of may.

Here is a points calculator which will determine how many points a food/drink is:

Here is a thread on how to calculator your daily limit:

Plus besides the points you get you can chose to have an extra 35 for whenever you want. I usually save them for the weekend and in case I go out to eat I try to make a good choice but sometimes it happens that I go over my daily. I don't use all extra 35, though.

The max amount you can have daily is 44. My calculations put me at 48 but there is that 44 limit so I'm there. I assume it's somewhere around 2200 calories/day.

I find it pretty easy to keep track of. I have an iPhone app iWatchr which tracks my points balance and has a built in calculator. Just so you know, you can only count fiber up to 4. Even if you put in 20 in the calculators, they will default to 4. Why, I don't know..I assume you get a discount for fiber intake on your points, but only so much of a discount..

Welcome JazzyJ - you sound like you're on your way. Just remember to do small, incremental changes and don't beat yourself up when you don't do well, just resolve to do better and it'll all be good!

As for the beer question, I'm not sure I can help because I don't do weight watchers...but I will say this, if you're drinking to get a buzz and/or plan to drink a lot, it's better to just drink regular beers as the alcohol content is higher. If you're just drinking a few while you hang out and want to watch calories of course light beer is a better call.

I just know when I drink on the weekend, I tend to drink over a long period of time and find I drink a lot more light beers cuz they're watery, and actually end up taking in more calories than simply drinking regular, full caloried and full tasting w/more alcohol beer.
