The mustard should be Dijon for the burger! Just saw that. Though really, a personal preference..

That sounds like it'd make an excellent meat loaf as well.

I'd make that burger and then sautee onions and mushrooms and throw a piece of swiss cheese on it with some A1 and that's some good eating!

btw - mens health says swiss cheese is by far the healthiest cheese to eat whenever you can...

Yeah I put sauteed onions and mushrooms if I have them. I just use low fat processed american cheese, it's only 50 cals per slice.

Oh yeah, another thing, I got Emeril's Southwest style salsa yesterday and it is by far the best non-fresh salsa I've ever had! It's only 15 cals per 2 tablespoons.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Hey guys. I wanted to get on this. Last February I was 404 pounds! I know, I know. I couldnt believe it either. Now after weighing myself yesterday I am 344 pounds. I have done it using a low carb lifestyle, which was actually easier than I thought.
However, I have found that the more that I workout. And the more I start lifting heavier weights, I seem to need more carbs just to get through the workout without burning out halfway through.

I like this daily check-in idea. Since I have been weighing myself everyday this is the reinforcement that will actually make this fun. Good luck to everyone on our journey to studliness.

Cool mate welcome to the thread.

Sounds like you have already made some big strides so far, just need to keep kicking ***! I know what you mean about the low carb = lack of energy thing. I know some people have no problem with it but i am the same. I tend to find some healthy carbs (especially fiber rich carbs) makes me feel better, be able to concentrate better and have more energy. Maybe try introducing a small amount of carbs like a banana a few hours before your workouts to help fuel your energy needs?

Hey Lewshus, you came to the right place man, and as Jonesy said it sounds like you have done a HUGE job of getting on the right track.

Sorry for not checking in yesterday later in the day all. I didn't go off and eat pizza or anything. I had some fish, spinach and cauliflower for lunch. Then I went home and made some dreamfields low carb spaghetti with red onions, yellow & red peppers, mushrooms and ground turkey. I am amazed at how little I eat now. I had a small bowl of the spaghetti and then was full. In the old days i'd have eaten two huge plates of this stuff. Wow.

So tonight i'm going out to an italian place with my g/f so I'm eating pretty light. No breakfast yet this morning, although I'll probably get a granola bar here in a bit, just not hungry though at all.

After a week of restricting calories - I started at 198 lbs.

As of this morning, 194.8 lbs. Cardio, weight lifting and most importantly...PULL UPS!

This is going to be fun (goal is 165 by September).

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Thanks for the encouragement guys. So far today i have had 3 eggs scrambled, 2 turkey sausage patties, about 10 small pieces of honeydew melon, and a cup of coffee with about an ounce of 1/2 & 1/2 and liquid splenda.

Today is shoulders day so I'm gonna take Jonesy's advice and grab a banana before my workout. Here is my workout for today.

10 minutes on the treadmill to get the blood flowing for my workout.

Overhead DB Raises (1 warmup set, then 4 sets of 12-10-8-6, increasing weight)
Side Laterals (3-4 sets of 8-10 reps)
Seated DB Laterals (3-4 sets 8-10 reps)
Upright Rows (3 sets 8-12 reps)
Shoulder Shrugs (3 sets 10-12 reps, heavy weight)
Collapse (5-10 minutes)

Later on ill finish my cardio with about 20 minutes on my elliptical at home.

Don't forget to collapse, that is the key part of the workout.

haha, well i didn't do that but my arms feel like it's hard to lift a pencil now. My girlfriend will appreciate these guns sometime though. Well right now they're more like slight mini-pistols, LOL...

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I just finished the semester so starting tomorrow and into Tuesday I am going to start some pretty big changes.

Begin the p90x - I got it for free from a deployed friend and want to try it. I dont look horrible, I am 21, 6'5" and under 200. But I am hopeful for the program because while I love playing sports, traditional lifting and cardio leaves me bored and uninspired.

Better Diet - I am going to follow the p90x nutritional guide, from the research I have done, the diet is more important than the actual workouts for results.

Quitting smoking - It is too expensive and not healthy. I am tired of feeling restricted, in that I feel I MUST smoke certain times and I want to be free from it. Have quit before using the patch/gum for a few months, and last time quit for a few days cold turkey. I may pick up the patch or I may just try cold turkey.

Drinking less It has gotten out of hand. This cycle of drinking too much during the semester out of stress and during the summer out of boredom. To be both more productive and healthy I at least have to cut down in a major way.

Sleep Right Goes along with drinking less but I can't get into shape if I am passing out as the sun rises and waking as it sets. I am more productive in the morning anyway. I am hoping to go to sleep at 12-2am and sleep until 8-10am daily.

Also I am starting studying for the GRE that I have to take in a few months.

Thanks everybody and wish me luck!
