Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Well, no turning back now. I'm currently at 6', 205lbs of solid notmuscle, and it's time for a change. With help from Jonesy and NDAlum, i've gotten solid advice, tailored a diet and workout, and i've now got everything for my diet in the house. Fully committed now, as I don't have much of a choice. All I have in the house for myself to eat is stuff from my diet. I actually threw out some of the fattier snacks that only I would eat, so I don't have anything to fall back on. Now, just to keep myself away from Tim Horton's for coffee (brew it at home on the Keurig, just black with no cream or sugar) and any fast food place for meals.

I was actually suprised, as groceries were not much more expensive than usual. My wife isn't eating all too much anyways, being pregnant and all, along with having gestational diabetes. My boy hardly ever eats, even when we make him, but he's healthy as a horse. All I really had to change was my portion of the groceries. The protein shot this bill a little higher ($15), but it should last me a month, so it's not bad. I also had to pick up tupperware for my meals, a shaker for the protein shakes, and razor blades, which I won't need to buy for another couple months. So after this week, groceries will actually be about the same price as usual, which is very exciting, as I thought it would skyrocket.

I'll start some high intensity interval training on Monday to coincide with the diet. I figure 3 days a week with the HIIT on the exercise bike, and 2 just doing body weight workouts (pushups, pullups, etc.) will take care of the fitness aspect, and the diet should take care of the rest.

Wish me luck fellas, no turning back now!

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I know it's only day 2, but i'm actually enjoying this diet. I thought i'd be hungry all the time, but I was able to fill out a pretty darn healthy and appetizing diet with a 2000 calorie limit. I do get some slight hunger pangs, but I just drink water or have a stick of gum. Since it's only a couple hours between snacks/meals, it's never anything that gets me to the point of feeling really hungry.

Done two days of workouts now. First day I started the high intensity interval training which didn't go to well afterwards. I brought it up in AA's gaining muscle thread. Wound up getting dizzy and throwing up after, but a combination of having milk in a protein shake prior to working out and pushing myself too hard the first day probably caused it.

Today, I started the 100 pushup program you can look up online. It's a six week program that's designed to get you to be able to do 100 pushups at once. I actually burned through the first day pretty easy, but it's nothing too difficult the first week. More or less just trying to get you back in the swing of things.

I already notice a difference in alertness and just overall not feeling like crap. The food is definitely making a difference. It's still hard to fight off cravings for sugary foods, but as long as I stay focused, I know I can stick to this.

Nice man! Those craving will go away, just takes a little while for the body to get used to things. Keep it up!

Push ups are simply awesome. So simple but work so many muscles at once and you can do them anytime, anywhere. That 100 pushup program is solid, good luck with it.

Yup, I can do 100 pushups thanks to that program - it's great. You're on the right track - and don't be afraid to give yourself a cheat day once a week, gotta keep that sanity man.

Do you do whole cheat days Matt? I prefer a cheat meal or two but man if i had a whole day to eat what i want it wouldn't be pretty.

Kearnzo another option to consider going forward the p90x program. They can be done at home and are truly great workouts. You can find them online for free if you know where to look as well.

I think a whole day is fine once you are are close to your target weight or are in maintenance mode. I mean, even if you ate 10,000 calories on you cheat day (which is an insane number of calories) I don't think your body could absorb that many calories since it is not used to handling them.

Oh yeah for sure if you are at maintenance go for it! For me (cutting) then it would probably derail my whole week's efforts.

A buddy of mine eats at least 3-5k cals per day (the dude eats a whole family pizza or 2 foot longs from subway in one sitting etc) and stays around 12 % bf all year. Lucky SOB!

If i did that i'd be 300lbs and 40% body fat.

I went 2 weeks just having protein shakes, oatmeal, and eggs.

Last night, caved after I had

                          3 liter long islands
                          2 Irish Car Bombs
                          2 XXL Chalupa's
                          2 7 layer burritos
                          3 volcano tacos.

I think I set my fitness goals back about 14 years in 2 hours.

Ohhh your stomach isn't going to like you after that USF.

I have the occasionally cheat meal but usually just 3 or 4 slices of pizza and few beers or something. While it tastes good i generally don't feel to good the next day and spend more time than normal visiting "le crappier". I guess my body is so used to bloody oats, chicken and broccoli now it freaks out when i have fast food.

Just recently decided to try and take off 15 lbs and tried no carbon diet. Not all that bad results about 12 lbs in 2 weeks. I reckon most is water weight but figure keep this up til Thanksgiving and then try to maintain. That'd put me at 200 lbs at 6 foot tall.
