I did a spin class with my wife last night. Wow. I don't think the dude leading the class is human. When it was over (1 hour) it was like I jumped into a pool. I was soaked. I bet I lost 3 pounds in water weight. Gotta say though I slept like a log.

I'll probably do it again, but what a buttkicking.

I'm also trying to lose a few pounds. I'm at 212 trying to get to 200. I'm running a couple miles every other day. When I went to the doctor yesterday he said that when it comes to weight loss, it's not so much the exercise as it is just eating less. Well that's the hard part for me...I love food! I just gotta cut my portions down, and not eat till I'm full.

He also suggested soynuts as a snack throughout the day. I don't know how they taste, but I'll give them a try.

You'd think so but i think i must have a bladder the size of a peanut or something. I'm a one piss per beer man unfortunately.

Chef i know what you are saying about those spin classes. I did one a few years back and couldn't walk properly the next day and i must have left a puddle of sweat on the floor i was sweating so profusely.

Welcome Gopadres, you should be able to bump off 12lbs in no time at all....

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Another weigh-in for me today. First plateau... I weighed in at exactly the same as I did two weeks ago. It wasn't really a surprise - in fact, I worried I was going to see some weight gain - but the lack of progress will hopefully spur me to some more effort. I really, really want to break under 280 for my next weigh-in in mid-August.

Here is a chart tracking my progress since I "hopped on the wagon" back in mid-May:

            May 15: 303
            May 31: N/A (no weigh)
            June 15: 291
            June 30: 286
            July 15: 282.5
            July 31: 282.5

By using this calorie calculator, I know now that I've gotta aim for 2260 calories/day for healthy weight loss. I gotta buckle down.

just dusted off our unused Rock N Roll stepper by Tony Little today - hopped on, and went through the most intense cardio 10 minute work out this year.

I'm sweating bullets, great start to a Sunday.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I cooked up 6 skinless chicken breasts and steamed a bunch of veges last night and have separated them out into equal portions. I froze half of them and have half there ready to go for instant healthy meals i can simply microwave and eat anytime i need to. I think i'll start doing that every weekend so i don't have any excuse for eating crappy food out of convenience.

I need to get my *** out of bed early in the morning to get my workouts in. I'm not a morning person so it is a bit of a struggle but it's so much more convenient then trying to do it late at night.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I used to be able to lose weight whenever I felt like it. Seriously I could drop 30 lbs in 2 months. I would simply play driveway basketball, drink water instead of pop, and stop eating meals BEFORE I get to the "I'm gonna explode if I eat another bite" phase.

Now it's different, I don't have any sports that I can do myself anymore, plus I don't really go outdoors, I can control my eating very well but when my roommate offers something delicious I can't say no (and some weeks she offers a LOT), and I drink way too much beer (7 or 8 per weeknight, 10-15 per weekend night).

I've gone from about 170 to 232 in the last couple years, and had a misdiagnosed thyroid infection with meds that made me gain about 40 of those lbs. It turned out I didn't need them. ugh.

Another problem was I quit smoking the green stuff this year in late April. Ever since then I feel the need to get a decent beer buzz every night before I go to bed, or I can't sleep.

Anyway, I'm gonna try and see if I can drop a few pounds this month so I'll list my initial weight (checked today) as 232. Wish me luck !!

Good luck mate and welcome to the thread. Dropping the beer (or at least most of it) would probably do it for you. If each beer is 100 cals (some are much more) that's 800-1500 cals per day you are saving by just changing that one thing.

You are definitely right about the beer. I've tried to factor that into 2300 calorie diet. I found these non-breaded chicken breast filets at the store, I use Deli Flats to make a tasty sandwich with a slice of low fat cheese and lite miracle whip. Overall the calories for one of these sandwiches is only about 270.

I'm going to try and eat a lot of these, especially since I've been very pleasantly surprised that they do taste good, and the only beverages I'll have other than light beer will be unsweet black tea and good old ice water. I've stocked up on bananas, too. The tryptophan in bananas easily converts to seratonin in the brain to put me in a good mood. I'm hoping to reduce my beer intake slowly, but not drastically, my beer deal is a whole other issue in and of itself lol.

As far as exercise I'll try to do pushups, jumping jacks, and squats just to get some form of exercise, even though it won't be much. Thanks for the good wishes!

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Routine before bed is key as well. I've been taking out a part of 100pushups (or something like that) website where you start out at your max of push ups (i do ab crunches as well) - and do it everyday.

All you have to aim for is your max, and then one more...every single night.

                        So start with say...

                        15 pushups - Monday, Tuesday - 16, Wednesday - 17....and it goes on

I started at 15 pushups, 20 crunches back in March

                        since

85 pushups, 120 crunches as of July 31st

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

First week went well. I only ate poorly once, and that was a special instance where the boss bought pizza, and I didn't want to be that dude. The results are nearly 3 lbs lost without exercising. So I'm almost 220 exactly now. Did my first workout this morning. Just some light cardio on the stationary bike.

I'm not setting specific workout goals this week aside from getting to the gym at least five days out of seven to create the habit. At worst, I'll at least do 20-60 minutes on the bike, some stretching and some ab work. I like to create a habit before getting into the grueling stuff, since it sets a foundation and encourages long term commitment. If I form the habit, then I'll start to really push it starting next Sunday.

I stopped on all bad food cold turkey(pun intended), and picked up my food for the week, which is: apples, bananas, whole wheat wraps, lettuce, chicken, cheddar cheese(I use a light sprinkling, don't worry), water and some fiber bars. All I have to grab is some more liquid food for after 7p.m when I shut the carbs down.

Ideally, I'll be between 210-215 in 2-3 weeks, depending on how the workouts go. I'm picking up my bicycle on Tuesday, and that tends to be very addicting for me, so we'll see.

Yeah, and I'm glad I was patient to go through it. I just need to improve my cardio to drop a bit more pounds. I've been injured with a strained quad, sprained knee for a month and a half.

Thankfully, recovery is going well - and 90 mins of soccer, and tomorrow - should get back in the swing of things.

Have been thinking about Insanity - but not 100%.

Do you hop in the shower right before bed then or just go to bed sweaty?

I'll throw in 20 pushups before bed a lot but doing 85 & 120 would cause me to get a good sweat going.
