    Re: OS Running Thread

Booked my August marathon in a little island called Guernsey. It was nice receiving a personalised letter from the race organizer asking me questions about my running history. One of the benefits of running in a tiny race.

    First half marathon this weekend.

Completed my first 1/2 marathon in 1:23. Was pretty happy overall with that time. Hoping the extra speed work will carry over in 7 weeks for the full.

            Thanks guys.

I asked a good friend of my dad's about his running history. He told me about running across China and around Australia and all this crazy endurance running. I asked him about his weight history and he said for his marathons the fastest times were always when he was lightest, didn't matter about strength or anything. I'm starting to see what he means.

Wifey doing the UK Ironman on Sunday. I've done some crazy things in my life but an IM doesn't appear to be one I wish to attempt any time soon.

Anyone thinking of doing this just be advised that it costs an arm and a leg and is an organizational nightmare to organize but thankfully my missus is pretty organized.

                  Running update:

Ended up running 49 miles this week. Some highlights:
17 mile run on Saturday at an 8:30 pace
                  10K this morning at a 7:42 pace (147/1,672 overall)

Hope everyone is doing good! We finally had a break in the weather which had made for some enjoyable running.

Just finished a 62 mile week. Two weeks till Marathon time so slowly starting to taper. The last week is hell because I get so amped up and am so used to running that my wife can't stand me.

Looking to improve on my PB of 2:56 I set in December. I've worked on pace and running consistently at 6:40 a mile. Dropping as much weight as I can without starving myself which sucks because I'm on holiday with friends who are getting gassed every night. Every ounce counts come race time.

This will be marathon 8 and I'm totally addicted now. I have already planned one for the fall and thinking about the winter/spring.

Good luck to you, Xavier. That is a fast pace.

Compared to you and Kev, I'm slow. But, that's not why we run. I'm consistently putting in 4-5 miles on my runs now, and while I'm closer to 9 minutes per mile than 8, it's at least some progress.

I really enjoy running now (along with mountain biking), which is great because I literally went 5 years doing no cardio, just weights. Cross-country really burned me out in HS, but I'm kicking myself now for really ignoring cardio when I was in my early-to-mid 20's.

Progress is slow but very rewarding in running. 2 years ago I started running a mile each day at a 10 minute pace and eventually got up to 5 miles a day. My first half marathon was 1:55 and my best a couple of months ago was a 1:39. Very long process, but well worth it.
