    Re: OS Running Thread

Did my first 5k race while here in the desert. Came in second after a seriously fast dude absolutely blew me away the last 1/2 mile. It is a race series so there are 13 races in the year and you are given points. It goes up in distance until eventually hitting 26.2. Need to keep going in the standings.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

I just finished up my last long run with a 12 miler. Finished with an 8:37 pace. Was unseasonably warm this morning at 64 degrees and 100% humidity. Race conditions look like a low of 50 and high of 70.

Good luck to anyone running the Chicago Marathon this upcoming Sunday! I'm going to school and running at a university in downtown Chicago that's literally a 2 minute walk from the start and finish line so I'll be in attendance. I know you're going to be there Kevin, what's your goal for the race?

I am actually running one in the suburbs on Saturday. I did Chicago last year and didn't sign up this year in time. My fastest time is 4:09 in Chicago last year. That was with hitting a wall at mile 20 and doing a walk/run strategy to finish out the race.

My first goal is to always break that 4 hour mark, but I really feel like I am ready for a sub 3:50. I have been really encouraged by my negative splits lately. Previously, I would just continually hover around the same time. However, the 20 miler a couple of weeks ago with the last mile being at 8:01 was a huge confidence booster.

My only long run where I used fluids and/or GU was the 20 miler. I tried to teach my body to fight through the emptiness all summer, so we will see how it goes when I have some additional power in me.

I might actually be downtown on Sunday though because I have a few people to cheer for...just depends on how I feel.

Came in 8th place with a time of 1:34.13. Time to take some time off. Hopefully the next race for me will be the Gasparilla 15k race down in Tampa in late Feb.

You guys are putting in work! Gives me some extra motivation to get out and get a run in this afternoon. Mid-50's and sunny here today, should be a good 5-6 mile run.

For me it all started here on Bayshore Blvd. in Tampa. You see people walking, jogging, roller blading etc. The sidewalk goes from downtown to Ballast Point Park (roughly 5 miles or so).

I've actually never heard of that brand... What kind of running are you planning on doing? Those don't look like they have a great amount of support, so if you're looking into doing some speed work then those might be a good option. If you're trying to log some miles my preferred brand is Asics. Gel-DS Trainer 18's are pretty solid for anyone looking for shoes right now.

I'm not into the speed thing. I pretty much run 15ks and halfs. Being in my late 30s I try a lot of different shoes.

Didn't know they made a running shoe. Interesting. I have several pairs of non-athletic Merrell shoes and all are very comfortable. They make quality products.

Did an 8k race in the desert yesterday. Stupid me made a wrong turn (on the second lap no less!) and ended up running an extra quarter mile. I am such an absent minded runner.

You front-runners have no sense of direction, lol

I'm always following people so if I take a wrong turn, so have hundreds of other runners.

Does anyone run in anything other than Nike? When I first started running that was all I used to wear. Now I'm into trying all different types of shoes. I'm thinking of trying out these Karhu Flow Light Fulcrum and New Balance M1400.
