Knob Creek is my drink of choice. But you really dilute it? Wouldn't go down to well in a saloon of old lol!

Stay away from the cheap Red label. It is horrible! Easily one of the worse scotches I have drank. The smell is complete alcohol, zero character. The taste is pretty much the same thing, very little character outside of a strong alcohol taste. Only decent quality is that it is surprising smooth considering this. But you are much better off spending the extra cash for a better whiskey.

I drank some Gentleman Jack last night on the rocks. I am not a fan of Jack Daniels but I can enjoy the Gentleman's.

If I'm drinking Maker's or 100 proof Knob Creek I won't, but a splash of water makes the 120 proof more drinkable, it takes out a little of the burn while keeping the flavor.

Cask strength is a new fad, I would add water simply because it should have water added (need to use distilled though, most don't think about that). Bourbon typically comes out of the barrel somewhere around 130 proof (legally it goes in the barrel at a max of 160), then water is added to bring it to finished proof.

Most bourbons I find need a few drips of water (way I do most bourbons is I use a single cube of ice and swirl it in the glass, then immediately remove the cube, gives it a slight chill, water opens it up and the swirl aerates a bit), but not all, it just depends. Some need to sit in the glass for a while (typically those that seem harsh straight from the bottle, might try that with the Knob Creek 120). It's just a matter of experimenting and finding what works for each bourbon to find the ideal preparation.

I'm in sort of a rut.

I've been drinking a bunch of Captain Morgan, instead of my usual rotation of 'Weekend Whiskey'.

              Makers Mark
              Jim Beam Black
              Wild Turkey American Honey

              That's my usual selection..

I had a few glasses of Jack Daniel's Honey a few weeks ago and liked it. Mixed it with 7-Up and it was very tasty.

I fear the Whiskey Drinkin Woman after listening to the Nazareth album when I was a lad....

Close up the bar you know the gates of the brewery
                    She's out there every night
And she sure ain't drinkin' tea
I love that woman, she's the best one that I had
But she's got this habit now and it sure is gettin' bad

                    chorus:

                    That whiskey drinkin' woman
Is makin' a poor man out of me

She's got bottles in the kitchen
Even got them in my bed
Most times I see her now
She's three parts out of her head
Don't know where I went wrong
I sure try to treat her right
                    But it sure upsets me
Seein' her juiced up every night.

                    chorus:

                    Got to solve this problem
Won't you help me find the key
The way that things are going
I'll have to buy the distillery
                    She just stands there smilin'
With a whiskey in each hand
                    Got to think of something
Don't know how much I can stand

                    chorus:

Got to get myself together, start workin' something out
Maybe if I tried some booze, I'd know what it's about

Woodford Reserve and Jamesons are all I keep in the house (except for a small bottle of Jim Beam just used only for cooking). I can't find any bottles of it, but the best whiskey I've ever tried was WhistlePig. That was the smoothest rye I've EVER tasted.

Busted out a bottle of Glenlivet I bought last year. I never liked it before, as all types of liquor were too harsh to drink straight for me. Well, I have to say after trying it this morning, it's some of the most delicious whisky (scotch) I've ever had. So smooth, and the smell and taste of various fruits makes it all the better.

Stranahan's is good stuff. My buddy moved out there and brought some back. Smooth enough to where a mixer would ruin it.

Getting bombed at breakfast mate? I like your style.

I'll have to try some nicer liquor because none of the stuff I have tried is very nice unless it's mixed with diet coke or something. I've tried Chivas Regal but it was still a bit too harsh for my tastes when drunk straight or on the rocks....

I guess I should have clarified that . I work overnights, so it's technically my evening. Nothing like swinging in to Walmart at 7:30 AM to grab beer and getting funny looks.

Yeah, i'm with you though. Until lately, i'd tried sipping some of the cheaper stuff, and I couldn't handle it. But between Woodford Reserve, Gentleman Jack, and now Glenlivet, i've got three bottles that are nice to sip neat. I'd say the Glenlivet is the smoothest and cleanest, especially with the fruity hint to it.

                                Gentleman Jack is my favorite.
The more expensive one, single barrel, doesn't taste as smooth to me for some reason.

I almost drank a whole bottle of GJ on Halloween (some with coke, some on the rocks). Needless to say, I didn't feel too great the next day.
