I just had a wedding etc on the weekend where I was the best man. Because the wedding was over 2000miles away I had to get my measurements taken around xmas time and emailed through then I had another measurement this past week for any final adjustments to my suit. The results:

Pants and suit jacked both over 2 sizes smaller than the xmas measurements and my waist had shrank considerable while my shoulder width hadn't dropped much at all so that V taper is coming in nicely. I think i put on 4lbs in the 10 days I was away (lots of beer + celebrating etc) but that is nothing and i'll drop that this week now I'm back at it. I still have 15 or so lbs to hit my goal of roughly 180lbs at 5'11 but i'm 100% sure i can do it.

an interesting study regarding the health benefits of fasting was just release:

    The main points:

    - fasting not only lowers one's risk of coronary artery disease and diabetes, but also causes significant changes in a person's blood cholesterol levels. Both diabetes and elevated cholesterol are known risk factors for coronary heart disease.

    - This recent study also confirmed earlier findings about the effects of fasting on human growth hormone (HGH), a metabolic protein. HGH works to protect lean muscle and metabolic balance, a response triggered and accelerated by fasting. During the 24-hour fasting periods, HGH increased an average of 1,300 percent in women, and nearly 2,000 percent in men.

    - Dr. Horne believes that fasting could one day be prescribed as a treatment for preventing diabetes and coronary heart disease.

Sorry to go on about this topic again but I personally believe that in the next 10-20 years the most popular and successful diets in the world will revolve around some form of fasting like Intermittent Fasting like I am doing (www.leangains.com). Also i think that stupid eating every 3 hours to boost your metabolism myth will finally be squashed and people will realize that that is just BS from the supplement companies to sell protein shakes and bars.
So if I use fasting to lose weight can I sue all these companies who endorse eating 6 small meals a day for fat man suffering?

Lol I'm not a legal expert but I say yes.

I've seen people sued for much less......

Hmmmn another study was just released analysing the old "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" theory and found:

      Results
Increasing breakfast energy was associated with greater overall intake in normal weight and obese subjects. The increasing ratio of breakfast to total daily energy intake was associated with a significant reduction of overall intake on days where post-breakfast energy was significantly reduced. Correlational and multiple regression analysis support the concept that absolute breakfast calories have the strongest influence on daily energy intake.

      Conclusion
Reduced breakfast energy intake is associated with lower total daily intake. The influence of the ratio of breakfast to overall energy intake largely depends on the post-breakfast rather than breakfast intake pattern. Therefore, overweight and obese subjects should consider the reduction of breakfast calories as a simple option to improve their daily energy balance.
Objective The role of breakfast energy in total daily energy intake is a matter of debate. Acute feeding experiments demonstrated that high breakfast energy leads to greater overall intake supported by cross-sectional data of a free-living population. On the other hand, a large intraindividual analysis has indicated that a high proportion of breakfast to overall intake is associated with lower daily energy intake. To evaluate these apparently contradictory results in greater detail both ways of analysis were applied to the same data set of dietary records. Methods On an intraindividual basis total daily energy intake was related to the absolute values of breakfast energy intake or to the ratio of breakfast to overall intake, respectively. Food intake of 280 obese and 100 normal weight subjects was analyzed who recorded over 10 (obese) or 14 (normal weight) consecutive days, respectively. Results Increasing breakfast energy was associated with greater overall intake in normal weight and obese subjects. The increasing ratio of breakfast to total daily energy intake was associated with a significant reduction of overall intake on days where post-breakfast energy was significantly reduced. Correlational and multiple regression analysis support the concept that absolute breakfast calories have the strongest influence on daily energy intake. Conclusion Reduced breakfast energy intake is associated with lower total daily intake. The influence of the ratio of breakfast to overall energy intake largely depends on the post-breakfast rather than breakfast intake pattern. Therefore, overweight and obese subjects should consider the reduction of breakfast calories as a simple option to improve their daily energy balance.

            Re: OS Weight Loss 2011

I have been doing intermittent fasting during the week without really knowing I was doing it. With all the research being favorable, I'm going to cognitively do the 19/5 (fast-5) plan where you fast for 19 hours then eat in a 5 hour window. I'm going to keep my calories around 1500-1800 during that window.

I'm down 5 lbs totally since last week.

This week was up and down, and now I'm on the downswing.

I didn't run yesterday, but I have a lighter work load today, so, I'll include running with my lower body workout today.

I weighed in at 274 this morning. I think something is wrong. I should have gained weight since I last weight myself, but I lost 7 pounds.

I both love and hate my wife. Knowing that I have no willpower, I told her that the only way I could lose weight is if she took control of meal planning. I'll cook, shop, and all that, but she needs to do the whole calorie thing (she's wanting to get back to her post-pregnancy weight and after getting in the running groove, is now doing the diet thing). So after a week and a half, I'm down eight pounds. It's worked, and I love her.

I hate her, because today was a "do meals on your own" cheat day, and I ate at an Asian buffet that I used to love, with make-your-own stir-fry and everything, and felt profoundly guilty. Other than the stir-fry, it sucked. I'm miserable.

After a regular meal yesterday and re-hydration, I am at 298 this morning. 18 more pounds to go to second goal! I just joined a gym that is literally two minutes away from where I work, so I will be doing some running and some basketball during my lunch break.

We've got a nice group of guys that play b-ball on our lunch break and that's one of the reasons I've been able to drop some weight. If we have at least enough guys to play 4 on 4 we'll play full court. Any less we'll play half court. It's a great way to burn calories and have fun at the same time. Much better than the treadmill, IMO.

After finally, getting down to 211 I had a baaaaddd weekend. It all start with Daiquiri Friday at work Friday afternoon. I usually don't drink anything but, I was in a good mood so, I went ahead and had a daiquiri and a few beers which led to Mexican food after work. My girlfriend and I split a single order of fajitas so I wasn't that bad. However, once the weekend came things got worse. We went to Cracker Barrel for pancakes Saturday morning. After that we went home and I did yard work all day. I'm talking from 10 in the morning to 8 that night. I dug holes for trees, laid out about 12 bags of mulch and planted a ton of flowers and bushes. I worked so hard that I even forgot to eat anything for lunch. So, me being the dumb*** that I am decided to reward myself and get a pizza and hot wings for the fight Saturday night. Then when Sunday came we worked in the yard some more, digging more holes and mulching more flower beds. I figured that I burned a ton of calories with all that work and we were both dead tired come dinner time so, we ordered Chinese food. :o And if you guessed a gained weight after the terrible weekend, you'd be correct. I'm back up 3.5 pounds to 214.5. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Now it's time to get serious again.

You should see yourself level off by Wednesday weight wise. I treat myself to a bad meal every now and again on the weekend but by Wednesday I may be within a pound of where I was. That'd be quite a lot of calories to gain 3.5 pounds over a weekend!

Yeah a lot of that will just be water weight from the high amount of sodium in the fast food. With all that manual work you did I doubt you'd have actually gained any fat from those meals unless they were crazy 8k cal binges or something.

Man I'd love to have a regular group of guys to play basketball with but none of my buddies are into the sport and we all work different hours so it's never gonna happen. I do agree its 50000 times more fun than just running or walking on a treadmill though.

My weight does seem to fluctuate at times but, I believe most of it was water weight because I drank no telling how many bottles of water working outside in the 90 degree heat. Plus, I forgot to add that I had a shaved ice each day. There's a shaved ice stand right across the street from my house and it's just so tempting to grab one on a hot day. Also, I'm sure that the soy sauce that I had with the Chinese food didn't help much either. Especially, since soy causes your body to retain water.

Anyway, I got on the scale again the morning and I was back down to 212. Only one pound heavier than I was on Friday. We had another intense game of 3 on 3 today at lunch and I've ate well the past two days so hopefully, I can drop that extra pound before the weekend. My short term goal then is to be more responsive this weekend and try to get under 210 by this time next week.
