My all-time favourites are Catan, Pandemic, Ticket to Ride, and Power Grid. Those four board games have brought me a lot of joy.

If any of you are interested in trying your hand at some small sports card games, I actually run my own sport game design & publishing studio (FamousGames.co). I have six fun little sports card games that run the gamut of different skill levels:

The Beginner Collection (easy card games for new players)
      • Famous Fastballs (baseball)
      • Famous Forehand(tennis)

The Intermediate Collection (mid-level card games for casual players)
      • Famous Flagships (yacht racing)
      • Famous Fairways (golf)

The Advanced Collection (challenging card games for experienced players)
      • Famous 500 (car racing)
      • Famous First Downs (football)

Here's a shot of what they look like (you can find more in my Arena):

If they look interesting to you, come visit me at FamousGames.co - I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on them.

      Game on,
      Rob

I can't believe Carcassonne is only mentioned once in this thread.

Easily my favorite table game. Each expansion set brings another set of rules and strategy for scoring but the base game is fun as hell and easy to pick up and learn. One of early expansions comes with a cloth sack for all the tiles so I take it camping or pack it on vacations in case one night we just want to kick back.

Another great one. My wife and I used to play it quite a bit but I guess we got burnt out on all the expansions. Each new expansion seemed to add more to the length of the game than it did to the fun of it.

But you're right - another great game that's definitely earned a place on this list.

I agree with that. There's so many expansions it can be difficult to remember how each one is supposed to work. I have two friends and my brother that are in my my expert Carcassonne circle. The four of us can play with the 3-4 expansions i have without loss of fun but playing with anyone else I use the extra tiles and ignore the extra game pieces and rules.

                  Re: Favorite board game?

I actually played Clue for the first time a couple weeks ago on a board. I had played the digital version several times, but I like rolling my own dice.

Anyway, we went looking for it yesterday but couldn't find any at Wal-Mart or Target. Weird.

Christmas Eve Ashleigh, my brother, and I played Simpsons Monopoly. I ended up winning which pretty much never happens at Monopoly.

Risk Legacy is a really innovative design. The way it weaves a narrative across multiple plays is very exciting. I grew up on a lot of Risk and did some of my own modifications, etc. It's really the game I credit for launching my game design career (both video games and board & card games).

Agreed, those bookshelf wooden editions of childhood classics are definitely drool-worthy. The whole move of boardgames into the bookstores (and video game stores) over the past few years has been very interesting to watch.
