Seems that 6 miles was the average and a few places say it reached 10+ miles in one area

How did you apply?

Im in the Coast Guard so I volunteered since they are asking for people. If I get it or not depends on a few things.

This is an absolutely terrible catastrophe.

If anyone has family there, some decent news from AT&T - They have made all calls between March 11th and March 31st free to Japan from the US. They also allow text messages as well.

Take advantage of it if you have AT&T and need to reach out to loved ones!

If anyone has family there, some decent news from AT&T - They have made all calls between March 11th and March 31st free to Japan from the US. They also allow text messages as well.

Take advantage of it if you have AT&T and need to reach out to loved ones!

Yeah they did that with Haiti as well.

The saddest thing i saw that really tug at my heart was a woman being scanned for nuclear radiation and she had a baby no more than 3 months old in her arms being checked as well, seeing that on the news just broke my heart and made me sick to my stomach. To know all the suffering going on there really hurt.

Also it's pretty heart breaking to see people who no longer have homes and fear that some of their loved ones are dead as they're missing. There are no words to express my sorrow at this whole situation.

USGS upped the quake to a 9.0 today.


And NHK is reporting that there was a blast heard at Fukushimi Daiichi reactor 2.

A couple hours ago there was a huge raging fire near a shelter as well.

It's like anything terrible you can think of is happening to these people.

Good read about why people shouldn't be worried about the nuclear plants in Japan, sans some extreme explosion or tampering or 1 in a million type event. I was waiting for my father to send me something - he worked at a nuclear plant in Vermont for 25+ years, so I figured sooner or later someone would send him something -

Another explosion at plant number 2 and a 4th plant is on fire now. Japan ordered all citizens to leave the area as far as 19 miles away. There is now a fear some of those plants have cracks in them because every time they add water to it, the water level isn't rising. And at some of the plants, the rods are half way exposed completely out of water.
