Just what exactly are you doing when you wake up?

I missed the gym this morning. Sucks. At least I know I'll be going damn near everyday for the next three weeks while I'm on vacation. I just hate missing days. Also that little exchange about that softball game was stinking hilarious. I was bustin up.

Man, some timing belts last for a couple hundred thousand. It just depends on the car and your luck, but it's always safe to replace it when instructed.

My Civic went to 115,000 before I ever replaced mine and the only reason I did, is because I was rebuilding the engine anyways...

I'm afraid to price one for my Cobalt... I like the SS package, but good god, everything is way more expensive for it. I've changed my own oil, my entire life, but now it's cheaper to let someone do it. It takes 6 quarts of oil (which is ridiculous) and a drop in filter. It costs me close to $50 just for the oil and filter. I can take it to an oil change and have it done in minutes for $40 and get the same Castrol Synthetic oil.

I woke up this morning, went to crank my car and it won't crank. I had to replace the alternator a week or so ago and I replaced the battery at the same time. I had to charge my battery a few days ago, at work and now it won't even crank. I jumped it off, got a few feet from my driveway and it started dying again. I tested the battery and it's low, but still good.

I tested the terminals coming from under the hood that feed power to my fuse box and push it to the battery, in the trunk, and it's flickering in and out and won't give me a good read on the tester. So, I guess I purchased a bad alternator and I won't be able to get to work, today.

I don't even want to call in. I had to call in once with this problem, just over a week ago. Now, they're going to think I'm lying and I'm really not and I want to work. I'll be working OT just to make up for it, because I want the money and I want the hours... I'm so pissed. I hate not being able to go to work. I just hope they understand.

          Wrong choice of words
I usually complain about me not sleeping early and about sleeping bad because my body hurts everytime I wake up.

That is crazy. I would change my own oil if I could just get to the damn thing, but unless I had my own garage with a lift, there's no way I could get my hand up there with enough leverage to empty the oil and replace the filter. The way they make them now you basically have to take them somewhere to get the oil changed. Even though I couldn't trust it (it died on the road a couple times) I loved changing the oil in my 88 Ranger because I felt like I was taking care of it myself. Or at least a small part of it.

But hell, I'm really getting an itch for a new car. I've got low miles, but the thing is 8 years old and I don't want to keep dropping a ton of cash on it every 4-6 months. The ideal situation would be to keep it since I love how much room it has and to get a fun, sporty car. But that's at least 6 months away. I did happen to drive by the Toyota/Scion lot last night and a FR-S was parked right out front. Looked real nice.

              Re: Off Topic 2012

I've got a Ford Focus. My dad has always changed his own oil so I was going to learn from him, but holy hell you have to jack the damn thing up (and in some cases, take off the passenger side wheel... yeah, no) just to do that.

Not to mention the previous mechanic (I got this car in September, it's been through 2 owners) tightened up the bolt so much we could barely unscrew it without stripping the damn thing. My dad's mechanic (a good one, what they say about mechanics is true) actually helped us out and loaned us a wrench to loosen it.

After like 3 hours we finally got it all done. But I don't think I'm going to go through that trouble, I'll pay the 30$ or whatever bucks. There's a decent station right down the road.

My timing belt is supposed to be replaced at 75K mile intervals... once replaced, and due in another 25K. That's a big reason why I got this car, off of Craigslist. The description was so well detailed and the car was well kept up. Haven't had an issue yet with it! Knock on wood.

Unless it's some truck with a huge left, how else have you guys always changed your oil ? We're fortunate enough to have a 2-post lift, so I could walk under my car, but the oil filter is actually under the hood well hidden.

Its been awhile so I'm having a hard time remembering exactly how we did it, but we either used wheel ramps or two jacks for my truck. Its also possible that I was just able to crawl underneath of the truck and get it done without needing to lift it off the ground. I don't remember there being any hassle at all. No way in hell I could lay under my car, though.

I have an uncle who got very smart about it. He dug a slope/hole behind his shop and could just drive a vehicle over it, then walk under it..

                    redneck car lift ? lol.

A few years ago, my dad got a great deal through my good friend's dad on the car lift. It was only a few thousand and it's been worth every penny of it. I can rotate my tires in just a few minutes.

I have a '11 Maxima and if I could, I would change it, but much easier to just take it to the dealer.

What's up with ESPN lately? Baseball has been the only major sport going on lately, and yet Sportscenter hasn't shown maybe a single baseball highlight in the past week.

                            Thank goodness for MLB Network.

Honestly there is very little reason to watch ESPN anymore unless a live game is airing. MLB Network is fantastic. NBA TV is great. NFL Network is awesome. These channels actually show highlights (novel concept) and have more in-depth analysis that does not involve Skip Bayless yelling incoherently.
