In my mind yes, but again it depends on the team. Keep in mind I'm talking football here, but if the team is young and upcoming then you can view it as positive in getting that far because you're probably going to get better. But if you have an older team and lose then it was a waste because you could've had a high draft pick to get better. The goal is to get a championship not to lose in the championship game. It might just be the pessimist in me though.

Re: Favorite team make the championship and lose or finish in last place?
I'd rather go to the championship and lose...
That being said, look at a team like the Phoenix Suns right now. Obviously past their window of competing for titles, Nash leaving after this year, on the downside.
While I'm not a huge Suns fan, I live here now so they're my "local team".
I'd much rather the Suns suck hardcore this year, get a great pick in the draft, and rebuild smart. It sucks when teams stay at 9th in the West or whatnot, maybe making a playoff each year, but just staying mediocre for years.
Sometimes you have to really suck to rebuild IMO.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Using my personal teams, it's like choosing between KU basketball (Made the tournament 18 straight years from 1990-2007 and didn't win a title), or the Royals (Missed the post season from 1990-2007). That's more basic obviously since KU didn't make the title game every year, and the Royals didn't finish every year, but I think that's a decent real world example of what the question was getting at.Comment

Re: Favorite team make the championship and lose or finish in last place?
The disconcerting thing is, some people actually think finishing in last is better.
I've experienced both sides of this, frequently, being a Cleveland sports and Ohio State fan. Yeah it blows losing in the chip or playoffs, but at least it was a good season at the time. When your teams suck all the time, you start to get disconnected, and start caring less about how they do because failure has become the expectation. When the Browns blow a late lead, all I do is shrug and sigh, it's what I've come to expect from constant failure, at least when your teams are good, you have a fun time along the way, even if their not bringing back championships.-Ohio State-

Yeah, I enjoyed the Panthers' 2-14 season last year much better than their 2003-2004 Super Bowl team that lost to the Patriots off of an Adam Vinatieri field goal as time expired.

As a Rangers fan I know what its like to lose the World Series twice and back when they sucked and never thought they would make the playoffs.
I would pick losing in the Championship every day of the week because at least they are good enough to make the playoffs. Yeah they lost but they are still good.MLB: Texas Rangers

How could you give up the feeling of winning a playoff game or series? You're forgetting about the journey your team takes to get to the championship.
Those playoff years the Suns have had was amazing. Right now I can barely stomach watching them. Its painful. I rather watch a good team play the sport well.
A couple years ago when the AZ Cardinals made that run to the Superbowl, that was one of the funnest times of my whole life. I would never give that up even though it ended in heartbreak.Comment

Re: Favorite team make the championship and lose or finish in last place?
Now again I'm strictly talkin NFL here, but I don't give 2 flying rats behinds about the journery. It's probably just me and maybe I invest too much of myself in my team and take it too seriously. For me with a team like the Ravens the journey stresses me out because I never know what I'm going to get out of them. Put it this way, I will be way more mad and ticked off if the Ravens lose this weekend than I would be If they came in last place. Now of course I wouldn't want to finish last on a regular basis but if we're talking for one season I would rather finish last than invest in my team only to have my heart ripped out in the playoffs. But again I guess that's just me, to each their own.Battle.net: xXKING08Xx
