Re: The Pleasures of Life Thread

Recently ran into one of my old middle school teachers. Even though I haven't seen them since then and obviously look different now vs then, they not only recognized me, but knew my name. Funny enough, it was a teacher I always thought they didn't like me so much. Not that I ever had any issue with them, but I'm sure everyone has had a teacher or two in their life they always thought probably didn't like them(along with others that you knew for sure didn't like you).

lol, makes me rethink all my years in school and wondering what teachers I had really thought of it, and how many might actually remember me if they ever did see me. Given how many names/faces teachers have to know every single year, you don't expect them to remember specific people, and even if they don't remember names/faces, might have used specific people/class from my time as examples when talking to students they had in the future.

Only 1 instance I can think of where a teacher I had actually asked to keep one of my projects to use as a demo for future years. Though many teachers I did have really liked me and my group of friends, so maybe we did set some kind of example for them to bring up for future classes.

Going to a game with promotional giveaways, and seeing pictures online of the big lineup pregame for that giveaway. I had small hopes, but accepted fact that I won't get it. Got to the game, see people walking with the giveaway, still thinking its probably too late. Closer I got, more people I still see with it. Eventually get there and find out they still have it!

Giveaways in this city go fast for all sports teams. Many times, people honestly go simply for the giveaway and might not even care about the game. Buy cheapest tickets, lineup early, get giveaway, leave. Shop owners sell it at their store too. In this case, I saw people selling it on ebay for nearly $100! Not that I'm thinking of selling it. One of coolest giveaways I've ever gotten from any game, and I've collected my share of giveaways over the years. Nothing will top my commemorative baseball. Funny enough, almost same story of how I got it(got to game at a time I thought was too late, but it wasn't. I didn't care who won, I wanted the giveaway because of how special it was to me, and paying $50+ for it wouldn't give me the same "this is truly mine" feeling)

That's awesome. I have a ton of Rangers giveaways, but most of them come from my sister. I get to games quite a bit, but i dont seem to go as much on giveaway days. My sister on the other hand goes to tons of games, and like you said, sometimes buys a ticket just to get the item and leaves. She is currently in Minnesota watching the Rangers, and was at the KC game when they were there a few days ago.

Anyway, when i dont get to games, she always gives me the promotional item. (Usually she takes a friend who doesn't want the item, just so she can get me one) So i have a closet overflowing with this stuff, not mention the displayed items on desks, walls, etc. I have some pretty cool stuff thanks to her. More bobbleheads than i can count lol.

In a way it's a good thing some guys figurines I got aren't so memorable or else I'd have too many I'd wanna have out. Best figurine I have is probably Tom Henke. Got those mini baseball bats(I think it's 1 foot big) one time too as my first ever give away. Tshirts, hats and so on are cheaply made, but figurines, bobble heads and baseballs are great ones.

I'll post pictures tomorrow of giveaway today, but it's truly something special to me, more so knowing very few were ever made, and you can't get something similar in stores.

Thats really cool. Yeah i dont usually get the cheap ones unless its just something particular i want. I like the figurines, etc. I have some pennants and memorabilia from the final games at the old Arlington Stadium before they moved into the Ranger's new Ballpark. I saw George Brett's final hit of his career in that game.

Looking forward to seeing your pictures of the giveaway.

Ironically, these aren't my pics(got them from ebay), but the quality was good so I decided to just use it. Though even looking at the picture, I don't think it looks as good as it does in person.

I believe it's around a size 15 ring. Like I said before, it is heavy. The actual size and weight I'd compare it to a giant marble.

You can't buy it anywhere outside of people re-selling it. And even if some company decides to make their own replicas of this, I don't think it'd be the same feeling getting that. This one I'll always remember as a giveaway I got from the team themselves at the game (which besides the holder in the 1st pic, also came with a box to make it more "authentic") over just something I paid for from a fan who got extras, or some online manufacturer in China.

                      Heck yeah thats awesome!

Yeah getting it from the team itself when they gave them out is completely different than buying it off of Ebay or getting a replica. Anybody can go buy something, but being one of the few that legitimately got one of the originals blows that away. Plus you always have a story to go with it instead of "hey look what i bought."

Very cool man, and looks awesome even in the pics! You should definitely be proud of owning that.

For those non hockey fans, to understand the significance of this signing, imagine if MLB rarely saw superstars change teams, and then the Cubs(pre 2016) signed a superstar player born in Chicago and cheered for the Cubs growing up, now wanting to bring a championship back to the city. Not just joining the team, but a team filled with lots of young stars and an already bright future. And also taking a small hometown discount too(turning down bigger and even longer offers)

Anybody winning in that city and breaking that drought is already gonna be treated like royalty in the city. Do that as a hometown superstar, and you'll be an all time legend in the city and sport.
