Re: The Pleasures of Life Thread
You're assuming I actually read books lol
I'll top that....
Again? Try 1st time, I win.
Still got time to prepare, but realizing all the little things that'll need to be done between now and then, and seeing how many different things will need to be bought for every stage of their life is crazy. Newborns different from 4 months which is different from 8 months which is different from 1 year. It's like an entirely new set of things required every few months! Car seat, stroller, playpen/crib are probably the main things I'll need on my side for babysitting purposes. At least I know I'm for sure not buying any kind of clothes. Not buying into that "lets dress up a kid in fashionable clothes...(for all of 2 months before they outgrow it, but soil it every hour they wear it)" stuff.
lol, another one of these moments which makes me feel old. Realizing I'm now gonna be somewhat of an influence/role model in someones life. I already had cousins who had kids, but that's difference since most are just those ones I see for a few hours maybe once or twice a year(Christmas and maybe 1 other time), so it's easy to be that "fun relative" when you're there for a few hours during a fun time of the year, with none of the responsibilities. Every day I'm getting closer and closer to living out my destiny.

Re: The Pleasures of Life Thread
Another thread hopping discussion.
Posting in the NBA off topic thread made me realize how going away for a weekend might be better than going to a game. Even just a 2 person getaway could be similar price as it'd cost compared to going to a 3 hour game. I should've asked for that when I was younger as a birthday present lol. Forget tickets, let's go out for the weekend!
I love road trips. Most people I know want to/actually do go to places like England, France and so on. I like simple stuff. Driving to the country side going to small town tourist areas are nice. I also don't care about some $250 hotel room with a pool and gym inside. As long as it's a safe and clean and good looking place, that's fine for me. Only gonna be there for 12 hours a day at most(8 spent sleeping).
Even more special nowadays since there's WiFi and gps. I remember growing up how we only relied on those giant maps for everything. Now, use Google, find exactly what you want. Location tracker can even show you small stops and lesser known tourist stops within the map. And highway rest stops have improved drastically. It's like a giant food court every 20-30 minutes.
All this talk and people I know planning a trip next month (that's optional to go on) is really making me want to go somewhere asap lol.Comment

We like back roads unless on a schedule. We like little cafe's, home-town shops, etc. But we also go to bigger cities. Recently we drove to Orange Beach and Pensacola. In a few weeks we are flying to Oregon. Then we will be taking a road trip from there to Forks. (You know, Twilight? Yeah my wife is a nerd. Haha.)
I can't get enough road trips. Make it happen.Comment

Road trips are awesome. My wife and i go on a few every year. Sometimes they are multi-state, see as much as you can trips, and then others are drive to one spot and stay there for a week trips.

The thing about Canada(specifically Ontario) is that it's so big, it'd take forever to even drive around the whole place. Not as populated, but it's much bigger than California(2.5x bigger!). So that tells you just how much driving there is here alone.
You could drive from Boston to Philly in the time it takes going from Toronto to Ottawa lol.
Within a 90 minute-2 hour drive of here there's so many great places to visit. Niagara Falls being one of the biggest of the close locations(90 minutes away). Parts around Lake Huron are really great for vacations too.Comment

I don't think Texas is quite as big as Ontario, but when we take road trips, they are true road trips lol. When i met my wife, she lived in West Texas and every weekend i drove 7 hours to see her. I had an old Camero at the time and i cut a lot of hours off those trips in that car lol. I would drive well over 100mph all the way there. I got a few speeding tickets. Worth it. lol. I ran my car to empty one time, because i thought there was another gas station. Nope.
That thing went to E, and i just kept drivin' and prayin' lol. There was no one out there for hours. No stores, no gas stations, no people, nothin. How i drove that far on empty i have no idea, because i had ran out of gas in that car a few times when i was in school. I finally found an old gas station in the middle of miles of nothing. It looked like the Lighthouse Lounge in Goonies. Guy had one tooth. No telling what i put in my car but it worked. I asked for the restroom and it was outside, away from the building. I started walking toward it and i got about 150 feet away from it and i smelled it. I walked another 30 feet or so and said nope! And went another route lol.
We don't go to west Texas much anymore lol. I had my fill. Now we drive East or South where there are trees and beaches! (and gas stations)Comment

Re: The Pleasures of Life Thread
Canadian side of the falls is way better. Though American side has a real nice park (technically the "must see" part of the falls is on the American side, but you can really only view it from the Canadian side). Spent quite awhile just walking through the American side park.
If anyone ever goes to the Falls, you're not getting parking anywhere (unless you pay alot for it), so just get a hotel and use that parking. Best to take their bus pass. That bus goes everywhere you'll ever need to go around the city.Comment

What I just read:
Maj points out that Ontario is way bigger than California
Maj points out that Ontario is bigger that Texas
Maj points out that the Canadian side of Niagara falls is better.
thread jumped after relentlessly defending the raptors in the NBA forum for a week
Maj admits needing vacation...
...where will he go?
