Re: Is it socially acceptable for men to own cats?

I came from a cat family so I love them. My fiancee and I got a cat 2 years ago for Christmas as well.

I don't mind dogs but you never have to let out a cat in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.

Re: Is it socially acceptable for men to own cats?

My wife and I have two cats, and I'm somewhat embarrassed to say we have become crazy cat people. I love dogs as well, and we'll probably get one in the next few years, but we treat our cats almost as kids.

I don't see anything wrong with a man owning a cat. It's a companion just like a dog and doesn't need constant attention either. We can leave our cats for a week and know they'll be fine.

I don't really follow social norms and very much do the whole marching to the beat of my own drum thing. That being said, I used to hate cats. I was allergic to them and they just annoyed me. One of my exes got a cat and the thing always tried to make me pet it and always wanted to play. I thought cats were basically the equivalent to a stuck up suburban girl. Funny story:

I would always go to my exes house and play CoD w/ her brother. It seemed every time, her and her mom would come to the room yelling about how all the pillows from the couch ended up on the floor. We'd tell them we didn't do it and they wouldn't believe us. We'd stand there in serious confusion on how these pillows got on the floor b/c we didn't see them get placed on the floor. This went on for about a month. One day we were on opposite ends of the room (room had 2 tv's). Out of the corner of my eye I see something quickly moving. It was that damn cat w/ a part of the pillow in its mouth. I watched as that damn thing jumped back on the couch and pulled another off. After it reached its desired number of pillows on the ground it darts off. Her brother and I spent 20 minutes chasing that thing around. I kid you not, we finally catch it and hold it up. As we're holding it up, the damn ex and her mom walk in and think we're torturing the cat. Then they walk in the back room and bitch at us for messing up the back room. Guess whose story they don't believe about the pillows?

The dumb cat grew on me and being around it so much, I built up an allergy tolerance. I ended up getting a kitten from a old manager a couple years ago and I swear it's the perfect cat. He puts his head in girls chest until they pet him. He freaks my male friends out by sitting right next to them and staring at them. He annoys my dog and then hops up on high things to keep away from him. If you annoy him, he'll wait until you walk away, scratch your ankle, then run and hide. Funniest pet I've ever had in my life.

My cat is great! She thinks she's a wild cat in the jungle. She stalks me as I walk through the house and is always jumping out and attacking me. She also seems to know when I'm not happy. I got her at the pound for my daughters but she has taken to me the most. She loves people and goes where all the kids are playing instead of hiding. She is more like a dog than a cat.

I own 2 cats myself. But I also sit down to pee so...

Seriously, I had a dog for a minute, an american eskimo and that dog totally killed my enjoyment for them. The cats and dog would play fight and get along but cats are 99% more independent and dont require tons of attention like the dog did.

Yes. I have had cats all my life. Always been a cat person and not a dog person.

I love my cat. Except when he pukes on my carpet.

I'm more of a dog person, but I live in the countryside and we have 6 cats that live outdoors, and one really old cat that lives indoors.

I like cats. They can be fun. But their claws suck.

Socially acceptable? Yeah, why the hell wouldn't it be?

With that said, **** CATS. Seriously. They're all uppity *******s, every last one of them. Some are just more attention whore than *******. A cat will knock your phone or camera off the table knowing full well what it's doing. If a dog tears your stuff up, he's probably just too dumb to realize it, and you can do the rolled up newspaper thing. Cats do that **** out of spite man.

Watson, that's what makes cats so awesome. They can be annoying. They can do bad things on purpose. You have to work for their affection!

My parents owned two cats over the course of my brother and I growing up and now they have their third. My girlfriend and I were given a kitten for Christmas and she is now 2 years old.

I love cats because they are less hassle for us right now than a dog. You don't have to let them out and can leave town for a few days without having someone check on them. Someday we will get a dog but right now we enjoy just our cat.

I don't see anything wrong with owning a cat. I wouldn't because of my damn allergies but I do prefer cats to dogs. I have a deathly fear of dogs, I had some bad experiences with dogs as a child.
