Re: Is it socially acceptable for men to own cats?
I love cats. Well, I've only had two in my lifetime, haha. One that I barely remember (My mom's cat from before she knew my dad. Died when I was like 5) and then our family cat who just died about a month and a half ago
Maybe we were lucky, but our cat was awesome!
We never had dogs growing up because we have a cabin that we go to all the time. Like others have said in this thread, going away for the weekend, just give the cat an extra food and water and you're on your way. No having to deal with getting someone to take it out, etc.
I'll probably get a cat when I get my own place after college; nice low maintenance pet. Then wait to get a dog until I have kids so they can do all the crappy stuff like taking it out to poop
Speaking of that, why do some people watch their dogs drop a deuce? It's kinda creepy. I get that there is not much else to look at when you're out walking your dog, but some people like, intently stare while their dog is doing its business.

Re: Is it socially acceptable for men to own cats?
I adopted a 7 month old kitten from the Cleveland APL about 7 weeks ago. I named him Zahn (the German word for "teeth" since he likes to play bite) and he is awesome. He was born to a stray just before winter last year and never had a home besides a garage until he was dropped off at the APL and subsequently rescued by me. I'm his best pal now.

It is just as socially acceptable for a man to own a cat as it is for a woman.
That said, cats are evil creatures and I feel bad for anybody who is unfortunate enough to own one.Comment

We have a 8ish month old kitten we rescued from a shelter, looks really similar to yours. He's hilarious, we named him Batali (because he's orange and we like the chef Mario Batali). He will demand attention by meowing, biting your ankles, hopping up on the counter and sitting in the sink, whatever.I adopted a 7 month old kitten from the Cleveland APL about 7 weeks ago. We have 2 dogs and 3 cats and love them all. Cats can be more cuddly at times, but only when they want to be. The dogs are cool too. I grew up more with cats, and like that I don't have to ALWAYS be home at certain times to let them out, but now that we have a backyard the dogs are a lot easier to manage.
It's just a pain when you plan a vacation, or even have to go to a meeting after work (like we did lots for the wedding prep). My wife or I had to always make sure someone stopped at home during the day (eating up my entire lunch hour driving and 5-10 mins of animal time) and let the dogs out. We're going to Europe in July for 3 weeks almost and have to figure out boarding.
Cats we can just have my parents stop by a couple times a week, give them attention, make sure food and litter are ok, etc. Dogs have to have people around multiple times a day.
Side question, anyone know any good online resources (or people in Phoenix) that do cheaper dog sitting or whatnot? We'd just continue using Petsmart's Pet Hotel, but for 3ish weeks that'd be crazy expensive...I gotta think that there's a smaller outfit that does a better job for a little less.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Is it socially acceptable for men to own cats?
I had a cat when I was very young, and I grew up with several small dogs.
I always thought of myself as a dog person until I met my wife, who had four cats (that I've now adopted, obviously).
I love having cats. I find their behavior much more interesting than dogs'. They're not interactive in the same way that dogs are, and I've grown to like that.
I like how independent they are. They take care of themselves. They rarely make messes. I play with them when I want to, rather than having an obligation to take my pets for walks everyday.
As for whether it's socially acceptable, who cares? Go with what makes you happy. Besides, it seems like women love cats, so what's the problem here?Comment

Re: Is it socially acceptable for men to own cats?
I would never personally own a cat. Not my style and I want a pet, not a tenant.
If the fiance got a cat, I wouldn't veto it.
But at the end of they day, my dog (Layla, a 7 month old German Shep from the pound) >>>

Re: Is it socially acceptable for men to own cats?
Cats are cool but only at the house. I stayed at this place and whenever I meditated, the cat always layes on my lap or on my chest if I was laying down. Must be the energy or something but it was nice and calming.
You can't take a cat out to the beach, out for a run, biking or hiking. That's the best times with my dogs is having to do cool **** outdoors.Comment

I love cats. Always had them growing up, and we finally brought a cat into our home for us and the kids this past year. She fits in great, and the kids love her.
Bonus points to her for keeping my feet warm in the recliner.Comment

Re: Is it socially acceptable for men to own cats?
I'm not a cat person myself, but I've honestly never heard of the concept that cats are for women? If anything, most of the cats I've seen/been around are far more badass than pretty much every dog I've had in my life. Most dogs are a bunch of wussies lol.Indianapolis Colts
