That is how it is at my brother's college. You have to be buzzed in to get into any of the buildings there if you don't have a swipe card. They even have gates that swing shut to block off corridors if a terrorist attack or shooting happens with a touch of a button.

Nothing is 100%, there are some things that just aren't preventable. Maybe the policy should be no outside visitors without a legitimate reason (i.e. a classroom function) to be allowed inside the school. Even someone wanting to visit their family member employee they have to wait until the employee can come meet them in the office.

My response was more so to the "classroom lockdown" than to this situation specifically.

Re: Elementary School Shooting in Connecticut

I'm in NC and I got my kids out of elementary school early...not because I am afraid for them but because I had to see them. I read one headline on the internet and just wept. I saw another picture of what looked to be a 6 year old crying in someone's arms and I had to close it out.

This is pure evil. I would also say the way the media handles this is also pure evil. They have sold themselves over to greed, wanting to be the first to break a story and get all specifics.

I am so sad for this. I'm hundreds of miles away and my heart is broken. I also understand that in other countries children lose their lives to such evil things. I'm just so hurt for these poor children, the adults and their families.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

                  Horrible, just horrible.

A lot of people saying adding locks, buzzing people in, etc would stop this sort of thing - you don't think people thought of these things when Columbine happened? Face it, if a person is crazy enough and horrible enough to do something this despicable without any warning signs, sometimes there just is no stopping it. People are looking for easy simple solutions to something that isn't easy to predict or stop.

It's a sad situation and a sad state that our world is in. As a parent my heart goes out to these families. Though me and my wife are currently separated I am happy for the time I get for my children. This is a time that we should step back and remember those families in our thoughts and prayers and also hug ours a little tighter.

Yeah. The Dec 2nd "hope the world ends in 2 weeks" was very eerie.

How would this have stopped this from happening? Just wondering. Couldnt he have just shot the lock off the door?

CNN reporting eyewitness who was in the school in a meeting with 7 other people....heard pops in the hall....3 went out to hall to see what was going on and only one came back, shot in the leg.

She cowered under table and called 911.

Never saw shooter. "Must have been 100 rounds."

Police marched them out in the hallway by the 2 bodies laying there in a pool of blood...school principal and school psychologist/counselor.
