Its not like you can get a phone contract with bad credit without paying money down, either.

Also, I wish I could figure out who this CoastalRyan guy is on my XBL friends list. I know he's from OS, but he's always inviting me to play every game he's playing and sending me messages telling me to play Minecraft.

I have a friend who's also big into League of Legends. Listening to a group of people talk about that also helps.

WTF is this upgrade fee, though? I had backed up everything and was hoping to avoid the "data/contact transfer" fee, but **** me they gotta new improved fee they're automatically charging. ****ing penny stealers.

Upgrade fees generally go to network maintenance, but there's honestly no good reason. That's always the hardest question to answer at work.

These phone companies act like they are cutting you a deal too, while they are locking you into a contract that's going to cover the cost of that phone in the first month alone.

If you have a good history of paying your bill, they should offer you more free phones. I paid $30 for my Nokia Lumia 920

That's actually really untrue. What you don't pay for the phone, the carrier is left paying for the life of your contract. Whether you want to believe it or not, a phone like the GSIII costs between $500-600 from the manufacturer. If you get it for $50, the carrier is covering the remaining $450. It's pretty standard for a carrier to not profit off of a customer for the first year of their contract because of the subsidy that the carrier is paying for the phone, and the general network usage.

Contracts and upgrades are completely necessary things. That's why the "upgrade anytime" plans offered first by T-Mobile, then AT&T and Verizon, involve you paying the entire cost of the phone over a long period of time. Carriers would lose a lot of money if they truly offered you upgrade pricing whenever you wanted it. They would get stuck with paying another subsidy while the first one was likely still not paid off.

That being said, AT&T customers pay a $.61 cent per line "Administrative Fee" that is purely because they can. But most carriers charge a fee like that. It's so small, you just don't notice. But it means billions in extra revenue over a couple years with as many subscribers as some have. Most of the charges are bull****, but if everyone else is doing it, a company would be stupid to miss out on that free revenue.

The upgrade fee is literally a fee that is standard in the cellphone industry. I know nTelos and Att both have them. I asked my brother what it was for, his answer, "absolutely nothing".

My dad hasnt paid one upgrade fee or new plan fee for years. Everytime he calls them and stays on the phone until they credit him back what they took. Lol.

I don't think they'll appeal to anyone who hasn't had chicken and waffles before, so much of the northern US will be excluded.
