Hey hey now, this isn't a bash smokers thread dag-nammit. I'm sure some of you have habits that aren't all to socially acceptable.

On another note, it would be interesting to see some of you guys opinions on the current gun control issues of the US. Unfortunately its probably against the TOS.

My mother did that when I was a kid and I'd just roll down the window even if it was 20 degrees out, LOL, she'd get so pissed but I'd tell her it's staying down until the cigarette is put out...

That would be my mother. A pack a day habit for about 40 years has caught up with her. She has severe COPD and about 20% lung capacity. Two years ago she nearly died from pneumonia and was hospitalized for two months and told if she smoked again it could kill her. She came home with oxygen and within a month was back to smoking. We have tried EVERYTHING you can think of to get her to quit, bribery, begging, interventions, etc and nothing works so now the family has just given up on her.

So yeah, that lady you speak of is my mother.

Yeah a lot of old people are stubborn when it comes to things, especially smoking. A lot of it probably has to do with the fact that they grew up when smoking was seen as no problem and no negative health effects, back before people really knew how bad it was for you. So a lot of older people still think it is not bad for them.

My dad's buddy Bucko is 82 years old and smokes 2 packs a day and drinks a 12 pack(at least) a day. Despite a couple strokes and multiple health problems he still hasn't, and will not, quit either until the day he dies.

            Dang 2 packs a day and a 12 pack? That's what, about $15-$20 a day? That's an expensive habit.

Re: Input on indoor smoking needed

Wow.....this is turning into a bash smokers thread.

Ok, I don't smoke inside my house. I have no children. Some of you are getting over the top, with comments like "They should ban smoking in vehicles". Really!!?? It's my domain! Now, granted, if I'm giving someone a lift, I wont light up if they are nonsmokers. But to pass a law? Come on now...

As for smoking around kids: I don't do that either. But now some of you guys are complaining about smoking outside in parks!!?? This is why I could never live in California, BTW: Can't smoke on beaches, in parks, or even your own damn condo in some cities. Yet they push for legalization of marijuana.......uhh, ok? That for another day.

Bottomline for me: When I'M ready to quit, I will. But I'm one of the few that actually ENJOY it. I don't need more laws, don't need preaching from nonsmokers, etc. That won't make me quit.

NOW-------getting back to the topic at hand: Yes, they passed the "indoor clean air act" here in Nevada. Some bars that have restaurants installed glass enclosures around the bar, to keep the smoke from entering the restaurant.Other bars had to decide between going smoke free, or eliminating the food serving part, which of course meant laying off the food service workers.
But of course, nothing they do to try to comply with both smokers and nonsmokers is ever good enough for the antismoking lobbies: They're now saying this enclosure idea isn't good enough.

And although I don't see it happening, they'd LOVE to make every casino in Vegas smoke-free. Good luck with that. While some casinos have nonsmoking sections, there's still smoking allowed. But again, the lobbyists are complaining that customers have to pass thru the smoking areas to get to the nonsmoking restaurants inside. See? They're never satisfied.

My argument has always been, you go to a bar, you will see people drinking and smoking. Don't like it, don't go. It'd be like me going to a strip club for a hamburger and complaining because there's naked women around.

                /rant.

Re: Input on indoor smoking needed

I feel like that's the only two arguments that smokers have/make are:

                  1. I have a right
                  2. You should expect it at specific establishments

                  Responses:

                  1. Yes you have a right, but you don't have a right to infringe on others rights.

                  2. I expect drinking at a drinking establishment which is what a bar is. Someone else drinking inside a bar doesn't effect me in the slightest. Walking into a cloud of rat poison however, does indeed effect me.

Smoking and drinking are vices commonly peformed together yes, usually by people that have addictive personalities, but that doesn't make a bar a smoke shack. Do they serve cigarettes from behind the bar, or are cigarettes on the menu? Last time I checked, no.

Now, if I went into a hookah lounge, I would have no room to complain, because I know what that establishment is geared towards.

Someone brought up, well if someone gets drunk, that could possibly effect you. Sure it could, but i expect results from drinking too much at an establishment that encourages drinking. Those actions are also not directly caused by alcohol, but the person themselves not having self control. People's personal actions could effect you anywhere, not just a bar. So that is a flawed argument.

It'd be like me going to a strip club for a hamburger and complaining because there's naked women around.
                  This analogy makes zero sense.

Yep. If kids are playing at a park I hate he people that start smoking. Have some respect for others around you. Just because you are free to do it, doesn't mean you should.

Bottomline for me: I don't care if you quit or not. People can smoke all the want. Just have respect for others when you should. But I would be fine I smoking was banned everywhere.

Then stop infringing on mine. It's not like I blow smoke in your kid's face. If I'm outside, and the wind is blowing, I honestly don't see an issue. But whatever.

This thread was supposed to be about INDOOR smoking, and it's turned into "ban smoking everywhere".

You can still smoke. Just not everywhere you feel like it. Same as people who do other things.
