This might be because my AP 12 English teacher is a huge MacBeth fan and I have to read/analyze/write about the damn thing over the summer, but...

Shakespeare is no longer socially relevant in today's world, and should not be read in schools as widely as it is.

Have you heard of Sons of Anarchy? It's this little TV show inspired by Hamlet.

I'd say Shakespeare is still just as socially relevant today as any day.

I'd put them ahead of UAL, AA, US, NK (Spirit), and F9 (Frontier) just off the top of my head. You're right in that they used to not have a good reputation, but they've pretty much blown right past the other majors (US, AA, UAL) these days.

I like United/Continental since I get 3 bags free each time I fly. Same with my wife. When we were coming back from Paris we had 6 bags total and got all of them for free.

I'm new to this travel thing so maybe that's it. I've flown Delta 3 times in the past year and I've had nothing but good experiences. They're expensive, but I haven't had any customer service problems. No delays, no lost luggage, good service, etc.

I've flown Southwest and that's basically a bus in they sky.

I've flown Spirit and wasn't feeling them either.

Well unless you're planning on being involved with literature later on in your career then reading Shakespeare is pretty useless imo.

I only like Southwest because I can get direct flights to places that Delta normally gives me layovers for. Never flown Continental. Always found them to be way overpriced, often 2-3x as much for a flight I could get with Delta. I used to use United sometimes, but haven't looked into them since the merger. American, same as Continental. Flights were always ridiculous, often $700-$1000 for the same flight that I could get for $200-$400 with Delta.

I usually only fly Southwest when I'm going from Ontario, CA to Las Vegas. It's a 45 minute flight and I can handle Southwest for 45 minutes.

Seriously, I think I am getting caught up in the Opinion part of this thread.

Saying you don't like Shakespeare would be an uncommon opinion. I could even go along with saying Shakespeare can be rather unenjoyable when the archaic language gets in the way.

But to say it isn't "relevant"...I am having a hard time with that phrasing.

Maybe saying it isn't relevant was the wrong wording. I guess what I'm saying is there are books written in the past 10 years that cover similar issues that Shakespeare touched upon, but in ways that are more relate-able to modern times.
