Kroger-branded pop tarts are better than actual Pop Tarts.

I'll accept either Cherry or Brown Sugar Cinnamon as the best.

I'm 34 and feel like I'm in the minority of folks aged 18-40 who don't have a tattoo if I'm in a public place.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but one of my old college buddies has been on a kick lately and has been eating up every theory left and right about literally everything. The matrix-like simulation, reptilians, SB LVI was rigged, etc. He'll go on about it forever too. It seems his gullibility takes on new heights. I made a mistake when I recommended The Belko Experiment and The Descent to him as horror movies to watch when he would take it to our way of thinking outside of Hollywood scripts.

And again, I'm not saying the simulation thing isn't or can't be true, but it's just one of many things that he read about once and then decided that it must be so because he did.

The folks in India had the best tattoo idea: henna

why be stuck with one permanent tattoo you may or may not like any longer in a few years, when you can have an endless infinity of revolving tats

I am kind of like that but if he's like me it's not that he's gullible but it is more about he's open to weird and what some might consider crazy ideas. I think it's sort of a higher intelligent person who has creativity and imagination who entertains these thoughts. Yeah most of em are silly but it's unlikely statistically to say none are true. Some likely are, even some ridiculous ones could be.

But yeah he could just be gullible depending upon how invested he is in these theories. I don't believe in most theories like this but entertain them but I do feel this one is more plausible than most.

The reptile people and all that, that's just noise to me, I don't give that stuff much thought to be honest, I suppose it could be true like anything else but just the sound of it is so stupid I just can't even get therre to think about it

So just to be clear, I'm really thinking this simulation theory could be plausible, mostly from some really serious thought about it, but again, this is a philosophy about life and it's an intriguing one so I entertain it with a lot of possibility, but with a solid belief that it most certainly plausible

He says them in a very cut-and-dry way, though. There isn't a "what if?" aspect to it. He got something whispered in his ear and it became a new gospel. He was never like this in the past.

As for the simulation thing (or anything else), I keep circling back to the same kinds of questions: "If this doesn't affect my way of doing things, I can't do anything about it, or this awareness doesn't change our ultimate outcome, what good does it do one way or the other to worry about it?" Most of the things he refers to, he has more of a glass half-empty viewpoint. I think he is seeking more life purpose or reason than anything, and he is deflecting his lack of finding it by speaking about conspiracies that he can't control.

There are crazy coincidences and happenings in life that can lead anything to actually be true, simulation included. I don't rule anything out, but again I also don't obsess over it if my 60-90 years on here aren't actually being moved one way or another as a result of that truth. I don't think people are actually unplugging from it if they are able to open their eyes about it.

Yeah, that sounds about right. There are a lot of people who are bored with having a steady life, then with how accessible everything can be online it makes them easier targets for any absurd conspiracy where uncovering "the truth" gives them excitement and gives them a "purpose". Combine that with someone who also can't handle when something bad or even just something dislike happens (thus conspiracies he can't control/something nefarious going on), and it's a big pile of paranoia going on.

I think reading/believing conspiracies is generally harmless, but you do have some people getting more...let's say 'aggressive' with believing them.

Hopefully your friend is more the former than the latter.

Yeah, I'd say he's rather level-headed in that form. I think he has faith in humanity to not go off the rails, but it's that existential crisis a little more so that makes me concerned about where he will trend next. I don't know if he had seen Avatar before, but with the second one coming out he may check it out and be like the folks who really aspire toward a Pandora-like world if one exists (I think a little more so he probably just believes it's real rather than wishing it was real).

That’s another thing. Conspiracies used to be wacky fun - celebrity has alien baby, Senator’s dad killed a President, Elvis and Bigfoot living together, etc.

Now it’s stuff like…well, let’s not approach the OS TOS on this one.

What happened to the mutant pigmen?! We need to make conspiracies funny again.

dear good sir, sausage industry insiders (aka Big Sausage) are responsible for turning my favorite uncle into a mutant pigman, when he found out sausage is actually derived from seeweed and tofu, and there are zero pigs harmed in making sausage. or bacon or ham for that matter.

and there is nothing funny about that.

good day, sir. I said, I say, good day sir!

I don't think birds are drones but I do think they are misidentified. they aren't ''birds'', they are what's left of the supposed dinosaur ''extinction''. dinosaurs didn't get killed off, they just evolved into smaller ''birds'', and lizards and other reptilians.
animals can't just go extinct and disappear, that's preposterous and impossible. unless it's the aliens that took ''extinct'' animals off Earth and back to their planets, to put in their zoo's

or maybe I should just stop drinking so early in the morning lol
