    Re: Uncommon Opinions

I don't know if others feel the same because they are supposed to be untouchable or something, but as great as The Beatles are, they have a hell of a lot of very stupid and unlistenable songs. I guess most bands are like this, but I've never had the spectrum swing so largely.

There are only about ten of their songs or so that I would have to pocket as all-time gems. Much more than other bands could ever say, but they aren't a treasure trove of greatest hit after greatest hit for me. Many of their songs I would be happier if I never heard again than if I even heard one more time. I mean they have some real stinkers.

piss on the beatles, the Stones are the band to end all bands. I could easily name 25 Stones songs that are infinitely better than any 10 beatles songs. now if I were a teenybopper back in the 60's, I could understand stand thinking the beatles were the ****.
I wouldn't be right, but at least I could understand it

Beatles are definitely one of those cult of personality bands that people become obsessed with. They had that star magnetism and charisma, along with the music. A lot of bands were just either or. There early stuff is very much of its time, and 1950s influenced as well. I'm a huge Beatles fan, and even the less popular b sides and album tracks I love. To each his own.

This is exactly how I feel, too.

Aside from a song or two, I just can't see what this legends stuff is all about. And it's not like I didn't try.

On the other hand, this might only be uncommon outside of US, but I saw a nice documentary about the evolution of country music yeasterday, and it only strenghtened my ever-growing belief that country's actually pretty awesome and should be right up there with the big guys as far as music genres go.

            Re: Uncommon Opinions

I was never into the Beatles, but I like them a lot more now than I used to. There are probably 6 or 7 songs I of theirs I like, which is definitely "I like this band" territory in my book.

But yeah, the Stones, I love probably 20+ songs from them. They're top tier for me.

I also discovered the mid-60s, post-surf rock greatness of The Beach Boys last year. Pet Sounds I usually listen to cover to cover, which is extremely rare for me. Until I Die and Surf's Up from the Surf's Up album, also great. I used to think they were just their early 60s surf hits.

But lately I've finally discovered The Grateful Dead. The Live/Dead album is just, whoa! Unbelievable.

I had the worst taste in music as a youth. Boy bands (which I'd have been mortified to admit at the time), Coldplay, Yellowcard, Hoobastank. Really bad, lol. The 90s forward have not been kind to music. Maybe this 2nd psychedelic revolution, if it really kicks off, will help. Rock & Roll needs a revival.

I agree, to me I'm so thankful for the Beatles...because they gave us Pink Floyd

I don’t get into Beatles/Stones arguments. They are both relevant and very important parts of music history. I prefer the Beatles.

But Roger Waters and Syd Barrett realized they wanted to start a band after seeing The Rolling Stones. At least according to Roger’s story when I saw him play about a month ago.

I also think that what Floyd was doing, even in their early years, was different and separate from what the Beatles were up to. The Beatles couldn’t play even play their more complex stuff live. Pink Floyd was entirely about the live experience.

association football (soccer) and more directly, IFAB needs a drastic alteration of rules:
I sure wish they'd hire Rob Manferd away from mlb

                  1) smaller fields. the pitch only needs to be two-thirds it's current size

                  2) no more allowing goalkeepers to catch the ball.
they should still be allowed to knock the ball down with their hands, just not catch it

                  3) no more ties. first team to score a goal first, worth 3 points.
                  all other goals, 2 points

I like the basic premise of soccer but I'd reeaally like it if there were more scoring.
                        and no ties.
but Sunday I will set a small block of time aside to see France and Argentina get it on.
and if the loser winds up with 3 goals, I'll be satisfied

I think Chik-Fil-A is overrated in general. Plus, I think McDonalds has the best chicken sandwich now. Burger Kings is really good too, but I'm still salty that they got rid of the Garlic Bacon King.
