Re: Uncommon Opinions
I swear once every few years I'll be able to turn on a local pop station and have like 3-4 songs in regular rotation that I like. Last time was around 2014. Whenever Blurred Lines came out. Then it's like someone hits a switch and I hear next to nothing I like.
But I am for sure a fan of spotify and those music apps. I love that one day I'll listen to nothing but rap, then the next more of an indie vibe, then some 1960s/1970s, then the next the soundtracks to all the Star Trek movies , etc etc.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
No. Just, no lol. I have never heard someone say that they can't stand everyday background music (I'm assuming this is stores and restaurants etc). Usually when someone has the today's music is trash argument it's bashing a genre here and there and the back in my day argument follows it. Your last statement doesn't mean what you think to others that have their music "readily" available for them on their phone.
My man then conceded the debate once he realized he misunderstood you and you couldn't even take that lol.

The whole point from the beginning was:
1) today's popular music sucks
2) its everywhere you go, tv, stores, sporting events etc, pervasive, it infiltrates previously good bands, and you can't get away from it. Its repetitive and you hear the same poppy hooky homologous sound everywhere you go. (And that is a big reason its so annoying) (and not a "you" problem)
3) most people are subjected to it even on radio and devices - unless people know where to find the good music - most people dont.
4) again, today's popular music sucks.
Its really all very simple.
Here is just one example of where i stated it.
Spoiler
Here is another:
SpoilerI get that. One of the very first things i said here was good music is available if you know where to look. Most people dont know, even if they have Spotify, etc.
I am not referring to people who search for and listen to music as a hobby. (Most people dont). I am talking about most people who enjoy good music, but don't have the time or patience to go looking for it. The days of good music regularly coming to you in daily life have declined regularly year after year. Instead, we are subjected to the repetitive homologous junk that plays on commercials, movies, music radio, talk radio, podcasts, games, other people's cars, and places of business. Tough to unplug from that.
There are several more. The background music isnt the main point but it all ties in to how pervasive and horrible all of it sounds.
"your man" didn't concede anything or he would have done it long ago when people said the same thing he was saying. he was being sarcastic. Lol. He has already (hopefully?) read all of our posts including the ones where we have stated (conceded) that good music can be found if you look. Yet we go in circles..
Edit: this was before his last post about tldr. I didn't see it before i wrote this. This whole thread is tldr.Last edited by NolanRyansSnowmonkey; 08-05-2018, 02:09 AM.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Annnnnd scene, we're good.
Here's an uncommon opinion to get us back on track.
I would much rather watch a documentary or read non-fiction than watch a movie or read a novel. My current read is an 850-page book about the Thirty Years War. I am boring.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Just kidding. Lol. That was wrong of me. I actually like historical/science reads and documentaries better than movies and novels. I would say mine is usually about 80% nonfiction 20% fiction. But for some reason over the last year for the first time ever it has evened out around 50% fiction 50% nonfiction, but i still tend to lean nonfiction/documentaries if given the choice. And i know i will eventually grow tired of fiction and get back to 80-20.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I have to think of the last documentary that enticed me. Maybe Beware the Slenderman.
Otherwise I have a bunch of trouble watching them, even with things that I love to their core. I have all three Giants WS Championship Blu-rays, and I've watched them all once only. They are just boring to watch for me. Imagine me watching it with boring content. *shudders*
That being said, I think they are an incredibly important/valuable genre and use of the medium.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I haven't heard of that, but I'm guessing it's about the crazy case involving those girls in Wisconsin.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I mostly think it was good because I didn't really know anything about it, so it was the best way for me to learn about the case, so to speak.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Also, if you haven't seen it before, it really is worth watching Ken Burns' "Civil War" series. I have mentioned this before, but when I first was forced to watch this way back when I was in school, I pretty much fell asleep every day. But now that I'm older (or just less of a petulant kid), I was endlessly fascinated by that series. To me, it's the best documentary ever made, and I don't say that lightly.
And if you're a baseball fan, Ken Burns' "Baseball" series is great as well. Really anything by Ken Burns is fantastic documentary filmmaking.
I think the "30 for 30" docs are the only things on ESPN worth watching (other than college football). I can't believe how bad/unwatchable ESPN/Sportscenter is now. Is that an uncommon opinion? I don't think it is...Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Based on an another thread here, (or maybe it was earlier in this one?) that is not an uncommon opinion. ESPN/Sportscenter is just horrible. Not sure how you can get sports to be that uninteresting/unwatchable but they have found the formula. I know they still have fans, but as someone who grew up watching every sports show i could find, they have found a way to work themselves out of my rotation. Other than 30 for 30 and college football, ESPN has really pooed the scrooch.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Yea. I think that's why I hate ESPN so much now. They ruined it. When I was a kid I used to get up each morning or record Sportscenter on the VCR. It was a must. It had a good balance of highlights and some humor.
Now it's just trash. I know it's bad when I'm dreading watching a baseball game on ESPN.
